PostPosted: 15:01 - 28 Mar 2006    Post subject: isp gone bust - domain lost forever??? Reply with quote

I have up until yesterday been using an isp called frISP to host my domain courageous.it, about two months ago he stopped answering queries to any of his customers as demonstrated on the forums on his homepage frisp.com. Now, as my service was continuing and I was paying my 1 euro a month on the button (through paypal) the service continued with me a happy bunny. Didn't need support anyhow........ This payment reminder came through and I forgot to pay. No problem, the reminder came through and I paid. Should be ok err...... I think! Then reminder number 2 came - I replied that I had paid, should be ok.... err.....??? Then reminder number 3 arrived and account suspension! Obviously this was an automated process which, without human intervention, was always likely to run this course.
Now, the fun begins..... I found another isp to host and they gave me new nameserver details but I can't access the control panel to change these settings. My "maintainer" TUCOWS doesn't seem to be interested as I have contacted them as the listed maintainer and they fobbed me off! nic.it the registrars for italian domains say there's nothing they can do and "good luck"! Does any one here have ANY idea where I should go from here as I don't just want to throw away the domain and email addresses along with it!!!

Heeeeeeeeeelllllppppppp meeeeeee pleeeeeeaaaase!

Tell me you're not running a business on this domain? Back-street 1 Euro per month ISP, well, You get what you pay for.

One suggestion - crawl like hell to the guy you withheld payment of one measly euro per month from. Smile

A .com or a .co.uk and the answer would be simple. You can probably still fix this, but your quickest and cheapest route is to talk to the guy.

If you can find the equivalent of nominet in Italy, they might be able to help.

Here are some links:
https://www.iana.org/root-whois/it.htm

The "Whois" for your domain:
https://www.nic.it/mod/StatoReg/index.cgi?lang=en&dominio=courageous.it

If your name is Ian, looks like your the registrant. Maybe https://www.nic.it/ can help you. They look like the Nominet equiv.

No it wasn't a business, just private stuff. Tried nic and they can't help. Crawl to the guy? How do you do that if he's dead? He may as well be as far as support goes now......

He also said that the company has gone bust and the bloke wont reply to any emails or enquiries.

Every heard of "reading it properly before being a smart ass" ?

Hi,

This happend to me but with a UK domain and nic did the transfer, I got some help from the people I was transfering to.

I would write to the guy at Frisp and hassle the tucows and copy NIC.it. You are owner so they will have to come to some agreement.

Regards
charlotte

Have you? Did you read the posts Courageous on the ISP's site?
I read very carefully the bit about him going bust but I could find no evidence of that. The ISP site is live and is paid up with the registrar.

Despite that, I spent ages looking into possible solutions.

When I really wanted to say "you should have paid him the 1 euro after the third reminder you tight-arse", I posted a link.
After getting to the nic.it site I found the info in about 3 mins. It didn't take much effort.

So I suggest a little effort and you react with this? You lazy tight arsed prick. Not to mention stupid. If you couldn't find the info I found without me posting it here from you, I doubt you could find your arse with both hands. Fuck off.

hehe - now now bfg - if you REALLY HAD READ the post you would see that I DID pay the 1 euro and after the first reminder.........

tut tut, temper temper! Oh well, I am sorry if I offended you but my backs right up with all this - The isp may NOT actually have gone bust but he hasn't reacted to anything on his site for over two months now as you'll see if you check his fora. So, you see I can get no support at all from him and so he may as well have gone bust.

Take care and sorry again!

No problem. I'm in work at the moment, but I'll see if I can help later. Might be tomorrow though as I've got a lot on tonight. Smile

Well - actually, partly in thanks to BFG I managed to make contact with an organisation who provided me with the phone number for the provider who it seems IS ALIVE AND WELL AFTER ALL!!! This doesn't explain why he hasn't had any presence on his own isp despite many attempts to contact him, for months and he promises me he will contact me in the next few days to tell me. Of course he doesn't have to do that but it would be nice to have the mystery resolved! Apart from this glitch it has been a reliable and cost effective (ie damned cheap) facility and I hope it continues from now. I'll happily support him at 1 euro per month and maintain my other site on my new isp as a backup.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and kind help!

Stay safe!
