Hi everyone, i'm new here and was wondering if anyone wouldn't mind answering few questions for me:
basically, i have just turned 19 and was thinking of learning to ride a motobike, but i heard that you have to be 21 to ride a bike over 125cc; which really disappointed me but never mind. Also i am really keen on getting a sport bike, so could anyone tell me exactly how fast 125cc sport bikes would actually be able to travel? ( i don't want to sound like a speed junkie or anything) its just that i would like a fast cool bike thats all. I mite be looking to spend up to £3500 (maybe even second hand)... Thanks guys

some do an indicated 100mph (RS 125, Cagiva Mito) and and they look like big bikes

You heard wrong. You can get an "A" class license at 17; this restricts you 25kW (33bhp), but the displacement is up to you. Most big bikes produce more power than that, but it's perfectly legal (and quite common) to get a more powerful bike and fit restrictors to lower its power output. This power restriction automatically disappears after two years, at which point you can ride whatever you like.

The 21 age limit applies to "Direct Access", which is basically a way to bypass the 2 year restriction period.

Most of them do about 60-75 restricted.

Unrestricted maybe 80-90. My figures are conservative though as they will be hyped up by manufacturers claiming 100 etc.

Aprilia RS 125
Honda NSR 125R will do about these speeds, not really familiar with any other to start listing others.

A 25kw (33hp) bike should do around 100 if it's really making that much.

If it's a restricted 125, then it's not going to be a '25kw bike' Smile.

If you really want you get a 2.3l Rocket 3 and restrict it to 25kw.

I would suggest an aprilia of some form, either the 97-05 models or if you can splash the cash have a look at a brand spanking new bike!!

I ride an RS 125 and cant knock it, im a big fella and with me on it still shifts up to 100 - 101mph quite easily and mine is completely standard so if your after speed, they ent a bad shout. handle great aswell.

Either that or a Cagiva Mito, looks like a Ducati and a little easier on the eye from the front compared to an RS but i heard they are pretty unreliable. (That is saying somthing coming from a RS rider)

Eitherway for speed those would be the only 2 i trust, never mind any of the CBR125's or those NSR125's go italian dude!

I'd get an NSR125, they're plenty quick enough and more reliable and easier to get parts for than an Italian bike (not that i'm biased Wink ), do your test, and then when your restriction runs out you'll have 2 years no claims, + be over 21; which means cheap insurance.

Serious question old bean, there are a group of complete idiots (People who really bring down a bikers rep with lunatic riding) who ride to a mcdonalds on a regular basis which is not a million miles from where i live, there is a NSR, Mito and a scooter, think its a speedfighter.

I happened to be riding past one day as they were pulling off, it was my right of way so i never stopped they pulled out behind me and followed me up the road, the NSR and Mito pulled up either side of me to have a bit of a play. We gets to this big island and take a right onto a big duel carrage way and us 3 take off like sh!t off a shovel, me and the mito are neck and neck with the nsr not a million miles behind us, i take a slight edge on this mito and we are keeping the pace and traveling at around 80 still accelerating, and this NSR is still not that far behind us., we backed off at about 90-95ish

Now although come the end of the roughly 2 mile stretch it was a good 4 or 500 yards behind us, i just need to know somthing!!

I know nothing about NSR's would it have kept up naturally or would that have been tampered with? de-restricted etc etc?

What is the tops on yours and what is the acceleration like?
