right, this has been done before, and ive been searching old posts for the best part of an hour

it does seem to crop up quite often, you send your licence away and it magically returns missing categories

so, has anyone had this happen?

basically, sticky has just noticed that her licence doesnt have her motorcycle category on it, 3 years ago she sent a correct one away to get an address changed, and didnt notice that the bike one was missing, as its the categorys like bus and stuff that naturally are a bigger concern, as they are much harder to get

so any advice as to the way to proceed now, to get them re-instated

i read somewhere that a simple photocopy wont do it?

could they be within their rights to tell you to sod off, and do your test again?

assuming they wouldnt be smart enough to back up every UK licence on computer in DVLA head dungeon in swansea?

any advice appreciated

Hi

It is the DVLA, so expect them to get it wrong then refuse to admit their cock ups. They are well known for it.

You will need proof of licence. Photocopy might help, but the best chance is to get proof from the testing centre where she did her test (if it is still open) with the date of the test.

Oh, and once you have got it sorted out report the DVLA to the Data Protection Registrar for failing to keep personal records up to date.

All the best

Keith

This was featured on the BBC program around a year ago. I remember seeing people sending their licence away and loosing categories and even gaining strange ones.

Some people lost the categories and were told there was no record of this and to get it back they would have to retake their test. One biker lost his bike part and had resorted to riding anyway effectivly without a licence.

proof from the testing centre
bollocks!!! argh!!! nope test centre is now a nice group of 2 up/2 downs.....

Only hope is going to my old employer Reading Buses and hoping that they hold a copy of my old licence with it on and I will ask a respecting member of the UK, maybe my doctor to sign the back of it...

I really dont want to have to do my test again!! When I did it all those years ago it was way different to how they do it now surely??

Happened to someone i know, lost her car entitlement. After seeing the scaremongering thing on watchdog she was sure she'd have to retake her test (passed about 20 years earlier). But she just sent the new (incorrect) licence back with a covering letter explaining what had happened and a few weeks later a new corrected licence arrived.

Hi

If it has happened recently then you should be OK, but after 3 years the DVLA will have disposed of the evidence.

There was a load in the papers about it. Included one motorcycle copper whose motorcycle entitlement the DVLA had lost and he had to redo his test.

All the best

Keith

Having spoken to animal from the muppets...........oh sorry DVLA...today, it seems I can write and state my case and they will write back depending on what records they can find their end.

I am so narked off with this!!! In the meantime a question...a legal one.,...if I know I passed and have been riding ever since, say I rode now, because its dropped off my licence I am presuming I'd get done??? Until at least it gets put back on or possibly have to retake my test!

I think they do it deliberately to make extra sodding money!!! Its gotta be a scam, how can they be soooo DUMB!
