I'm still up for a meeting that we were discussing that was meant to be in February/March time. Over time I understand that peoples trip and details have changed and are unlikely to be together other than at the Faro rally. Because of this I think that there is not much of a point getting together in person since we all going in different directions. It would be nice however to speak and swap ideas and information over MSN etc.

Prehaps a suggested time and date within the next few weeks that suits most people.

Anyone up for this?

On a side note... This trip is costing too much but I'm certain it will be worth it. Laughing

I don't use MSN (cus it's shit), but I would be up for a 'conference' on IRC or something.

I'm not 100% sure on who is still coming though. From what I gather it is:
Me
R4nger
Klause
Mik RX125
Babyyam (flying rather than riding)

Somebody send me a pm and I can be available on msn. I don't have IRC though. Sad

However, being a wimp and flying I do already have an itinerary! I will be arriving in Faro approx 5pm on the Wednesday. There are several of my mates flying in from different parts of the country all due in within an hour or so of each other so we will be meeting up in the airport as some of them have been before and know the site and facilities well.

If anyone gives me mobile numbers I am happy to text you to let you know about road/weather conditions, how busy the site is, where there is still space to camp etc as you are approaching the site.

I have bought my essential luggage. Have a big holdall (meant for a golf bag) that all the camping gear will fit in, and a big insulated bag on wheels for keeping cold drinks in. Thumbs Up There is a huge service station and a big supermarket called the Jumbo just outside the site.

Looking forward to it! Mr. Green

Alright, since there hasn't been any more progress on a online "conferance", how about we just do the simple option and use the BCF 'live chat' IRC thingy? There'll be other people in there to distract us, but it's better than nothing.

Anyone want to suggest a time and day?

Well my plans have definitely changed. Can no longer afford to ride down due to me "socialising" a little too often. I'll be taking the plane instead, but I'll still ride to the airport Very Happy

Going to get to Faro for the 18th and leave on the 24th as the food and drink is free on the last day Thumbs Up I'll probably rent a bike while there so I don't have to use the bloody bus to get around.

Confused So you're going to travel miles from the airport to the nearest town with bike rental (somehow) to rent a bike to ride back to a site which is literally alongside the airport perimeter that's going to be so hot & crowded you probably won't be able to ride around it anyway? Eh?

Where do you think you need to go on a bike whilst you're there? All your entertainment is on site, the airport is down one side of it, the beach is along the bottom and as well as the on-site traders there's a HUGE hypermarket thingy just outside the main entrance.

Which airport will you be flying from? You may find most of the really cheap flights have been snapped up already for those dates I think. We're flying with jet2.com from Manchester if that helps. Current prices look to be around £150 return depending what dates you go and where from.

I know what Faro is like before, I went last year on a plane. I need a bike as me and my mate will be going to see friends while there and I'm not gonna walk 50km!

I'm flying Easyjet from Liverpool. Prices are about £145 return with travel insurance included Thumbs Up

This year is the 25th Faro Rally...
Sounds that it will be very crowded this year...

I can't remember a month of June so cold as this year..
So... those who are not used to south Portugal weather have the luck to not turn in to lobsters! Laughing

*Update*

Okay, the time is fast approaching and we are now but three weeks away from Faro 2006. I believe Ranger and Klause will be leaving in less than two weeks time?

My current plan is to turn up at Faro on the Friday, but I will be in the Czech republic the weekend before so if it takes me more or less time to ride the 3000 odd kilometers to Faro then so be it. If Ranger and Klause are planning to get to Faro before this then I'd appreciate if they'd try to save me space to put my tent and bike next to there's. I will text Ranger when I get within a day's ride of Faro to let you know when I will be there.

If Ranger and Klause want any pointers on a route down to Faro from Bilbo I could possibly be of help. I would say it's best to ride down through Spain as the roads are better than in Portugal (though English is not commonly spoken in most of Spain so you better have your phrasebook to hand at all times). In spain the shops all close around Lunchtime on Saturday and do not reopen till monday morning, and in some cases not until monday afternoon - Petrol stations and bars/restaurants will be open though. The autopistas are bloody expensive so avoid them at all costs. There are lots of different mountain ranges dotted around spain, so plan your route south to take in as many as possible. Away from the cities there is not much traffic on the roads so you shouldn't have any problems making good progress even on smaller roads (which will be more fun to ride). A lot of central and southern spain is essentially barren desert, and the heat will be intense - If you are not at home in the sun then the temperitures in the Pyrenees will be more tolerable. If you take that route, try and avoid using the autovia del costa del sol to head west as it rammed packed with traffic and pretty bloody dangerous in parts. hth.

Yes, we get on the Ferry on Wednesday 12th July. HOPING to be in Faro on the 20th, maybe a day late or so.

Sure will!

That would be great. I will wait for your text. I could also text you when I arrive or if I am going to be late however I am not sure how many texts you would like or can afford etc.

That was our plan, to ride East first of all into the Pyrenees and then head south to Benidorm and then ride West to Faro. That is as far as the planning has got so far Laughing

First time I had heard any of that information Shocked I will take it into consideration though. Kind of pants that all the shops close on a Sunday though.

Our plan was to avoid major cities and towns anyway because of the stopping and starting and not knowning which direction to go and also because I believe it is nicer to visit little towns and villages.

Well me and Klause are pretty screwed then because it is hot over here at the moment. I like the sun but I don't like getting sun stroke. We are heading towards the Pyrenees on the first day actually and then heading south. I will take your advice about the autovia del costa del sol.

Looking forward to see you out there Nath.
