Puncture-proof tyres ?

I saw an ad on telly tonight about new tyres that don't deflate when puntured. I was wondering if anyone knew how it worked. All I could come up with was that it was full of individual sections that when punctiured were isolated from the rest. Not sure how that would be done either though

I've heard of run flat's on 4 wheelers its like a band that fits inside the tyre around the rim, never on a bike though?

They do deflate, they just have a solid ring underneath the rubber which allows the tyre to go on for about 50 miles. When they reviewed them on tv they said they increased road noise too. A bit of info here about them https://autos.msn.com/advice/article.aspx?contentid=4021164

For off road bikes you can get a bead style system to replace the innertube.

Also some kind of foam system, it seems.

puncture proofs and run-flats come in many forms.

Slime lining on the inside of the tyre automatically seals punctures when they occur

Michelin PAX consists of an inner plastic ring which sits between tyre and rim post-deflation

Goodyear's system which involves stupidly stiff sidewalls, and can be fitted to any rim.

I think michelin may also make the one where a specific rim is needed, and steel cable holds the tyre firmly on the rim after deflation. IIRC, there's also a raised metal section in the middle of the rim which touches the bottom of the tyre post deflation. May have got a couple of types muddled up here, so please excuse lol.

The stiff sidewalls on the run-flats give a firmer ride, and more road noise, as they absorb less of the impact. Fair trade for never needing to have a spare!

Run flat rubber bands on the rims have been around for years manily on military vehicles, armoured cars normaly have them incase the tyres are shot/blown out so they can still get away.
