Please don't laugh, but I've done something dumb.

I filled the water bottle on the ZX6R with anti-freeze (green gloopy stuff). Don't ask me why - I thought that is where it went. Obviously it doesn't - it goes in the radiator.

Question is, what does the water bottle actually do? Why is it there? I will make amends asap, but can anyone advise as to what damage this may be causing? Seems to be running ok (apart from dodgy battery.

Am a massive dufus. Doh! . I have also had to call in an electrician today because I screwed up changing a light fitting of all things. However, I am very good at tiling. Still, not my week.

Cheers,

Luke

Surely the water-bottle is a supplemental reservoir for the rad? In which case you've done no harm I'd have thought. Confused

Agreed, also make sure the antifreeze is ok for alloy engine's (mind you if it was'nt you would know by now) Laughing

As Siggi said, the 'water' resevoir is just a term for the coolant reservoir, f*ck knows why it's reffered to as the water bottle!

You're alright mate, nothing to worry about...i think...i'm not MUCH of a spanner monkey

Phew. OK. I am having a run of Doh! moments and I saw something on t'internet calling the coolant bottle a water bottle and I thought "Fook" 80

Am still having a Doh! moment because now I look like a complete nob.

It is a bit like saying "Erm guys, I've put some gas in the 'FUEL' tank - is that bad?"

Cheers folks.

As long as you've also got anti-freeze in the radiator Wink The 'water bottle/coolant reservoir/coolant overflow' is just that, it's not actually part of the circulating cooling system so it'll just sit there unless the level in the main system rises or drops.

I'm crap at tiling but ok with electrics - wanna swap jobs? Thumbs Up

The 'water bottle' on the side is actually the coolant 'Expansion bottle'. If the coolant overheats, it pisses into here, when it cools it down again it sucks the excess back into the coolant system - or that's the idea.

If you have this too full, it will overflow as soon as the bike overheats. Don't know which model ZX6 you got, but most you top up the coolant in the radiator - but also making sure this expansion bottle is at the correct level.

So make sure both your radiator and expansion bottle are topped up to the correct points on each.
