online slander?

Any body have any idea how joining a public forum and then making accusations about somebody without giving proof of those accusations could be taken?

Is it slander? is it against the law to accuse somebody of being a certain type of "low life scum"(i have avoided using the word atm)

In my view something has been said on here that should warrent an instant ban unless some form of proof is shown to back up the accusations that have been stated in bold caps.

Any body else got any views on this type of slander?

it's difficult to accuse someone of libel (slander is spoken, libel is written) on an internet forum, as libel often stems from when someone used a medium such as the media/newspapers etc to spread lies where the subject has little way of countering the lies, or putting their side over. Since we all have equal ability to post in a forum, there's no such bias in the distribution of the information.

There was a courtcase that happened recently where just such as thing was up for debate, and it was found no libel had taken place as the subject had responded with equal distribution and method.
