Even if we don't get enough for a new bike, its a bit of beer money or whatever.

Anyone got an email addy for paypal donations?

I'd also suggest that any donations would be gratefully received, on the basis that the more people donate, the more likely we are to reach the target.

Also its probably worth remembering that Andy might be off work for a while with his injuries, so its not just to pay for a new bike necessarily, although we all hope he makes a speedy recovery, and is able to spend the cash on a new set of wheels.

Get well soon dude! Smile

Can I suggest that one of you gents who knows Andy gives a paypal address to which donations can be sent? And also that those donations should be of whatever amount the donor sees fit or can afford rather than a fixed amount?

I think a fund is a great idea though. Thumbs Up

Although I also think it's too early to be talking about a new bike. Let the lad get properly concious and compos mentis first huh? There might be other things he needs before he's ready to get back on a bike.

Quite agree there. For one he may not get back on a bike.

Some people say they will never leave bikes, but no one could ever tell what will happen in the future, like a crash.

I would love to chip in, but money is very tight till i finish college. But still a great idea. Burgers/drinks on me in the summer! Thumbs Up

Maybe people who don't want to or can't afford to could donate a book/ old video game or something to keep him busy while he recovers?

May I make a comment;

When 'the accident' happened and Ste and Dusty were in hospital, no one said who donated to the paypal account, because some people donated time and sweat, as well as cash.

Personally I'd be more comfortable with an anonymous donation, but if you insist on publishing it its up to you.

I'll donate some when I pay some cheques in that I got today.

Why not? I really feel for the guy, and hope he gets better, but you cant buy new bikes for people because they had an accident at their own fault!

Rolling Eyes The lad's friends (in life and on the forum) want to help him out. It's happened before, mates have a whipround when something bad happens, it'll happen again. Maybe if your mate had been a more regular poster, got out to meet people, and you'd had the brains to think of starting something like this your response would be different huh?

It's not about who its for, I don't see the ethics in buying someone a new bike when hes binned it through his own negligiance, makes you think any well known person on here can throw their bike around and expect you lot to pay for it. I think the biggest gift he has is that hes still breathing.

Just because you can't see why we're doing this it doesn't mean others can't - the donations prove this. Now please shut it.

we don't know the exact reason he went down so lets not get into that, but i know for a fact he has worked hard to get that bike and what is £25 to me? a night out. i can suffer not getting pissed to help a mate out. sorry if you feel that your mate wasn't looked after in the same way but thats because he wasn't a forum regular.
lets not turn this into a slagging match, if you want to reply PM me

I'd agree on the anominty. By listing names it can seem like, to some degree, people are being compelled to donate so that others don't think bad of them - I'm sure this isn't the case, but it can appear like that.

Similar on the amount front. People should be able to donate what they can afford with out the feeling they aren't as good as others - some people can't afford bikes this expensive in the first place.
For some people £5 has similar value to what £50 or £100 may do to others.
I don't mind chipping in a bit to help him along, but this month I'm going to be pretty poor unless I manage to sell another bike or two.

To some degree, same on displaying the total amount as well. Say another similar incident happens to some one else Confused - is it fair to be able to compare amounts each has had donated?

Also, I'd agree that a bike fund may not necessarily be what can help Andy the best.

I don't know his situation, but depending on his condition and how long it's likely to take to 'recover' he may incur lots of expenses that general money may help out with. Or be in situations that a bit of extra money could mean a taxi rather than a bus, saving a lot of pain.

Also, to be fair, lots of people do have their bikes written off one way or another, the difference is the situation this time.
He may not even want to ride a bike for a bit; I doubt it was a very pleasent experience.

For me, it'd seem to make sense to give him the donations and allow him to do with them as he sees fit to improve his standard of life best - whether this be to make it more tolerable in the short term, or enduring short term hardship for a longer term reward (ie a bike).

Incidentally, £2.5k for an SV Shocked - is this the gold plated edition? Razz
I paid £1k for a 20k mile SV in fairly good nick recently. While prices are climbing a bit as it's coming towards summer, there are bargains out there for those willing to look and perserve.

How about if some people who can't spare money they could 'acquire' or backup some DVDs onto blank DVD-Rs and send them to him, would require a little more effort what with postage etc. but it would be nice for him to watch DVDs on his laptop in hospital.

Just a thought Karma

Oh and G you make some really good points there. Thumbs Up

If anyone's in the area and can pop in to check up on him / see if he needs anything in the next few days it could make a big difference - even if it's only popping to the hospital shop and getting some chocolate Smile.
