Slipping clutch @ high revs

Out today in my Yamaha xj600 and rides well , but it started to clutch slip in gear when giving it some very hard throttle,( in high gears) i suspect the clutch is needing replaced, other than that it rides fine, inc from start off in 1st gear? Any advice what this is other than a new clutch required soon..

make sure theres some play in the clutch cable (should,nt be tight)

other wise change the friction plates in the clutch.

Could be play.. i tightened the clutch lever to be very responsive...il try letting some play in it il try that later thanks.

Mine did that. Never got around to changing the plates though. Bought them, just never did it.

Try adjusting it first, other than that, just get some new friction plates and springs. Should set you back less than £50.

Mine didn't slip when it was 33bhp, but couldn't handle the full power. It would lift the front wheel off the power if you really gave it some off the line though.

I have been suffering this on my Divvy too, and coincidently have recently adjusted the clutch.
Will be checking it has appropriate slack when i get home!

10mm is a bit much, about half that is good.

Well my cbr 6 started slipping a tiny bit in the higher gears.

Then it slipped a bit more.

Then it went completely at 140. Luckily i was on the motorway, and near my gaff, so i pushed it home (the heavy sod).

My advice, replace it.

As said, its 40 quid in parts, plus maybe a tenner for extra tools.
You will need the daddy of a socket head to do the central clutch nut. I think i went out and bought an impact wrench one or something stupidly ott like that.

And you have to wedge the back well with some wood.

Dont forget to buy a new central clutch nut as it might very well be a staked one.

Hi

Divvy clutch is a doddle to change the plates in. No need for a large socket either. Take the clutch arm out of the cover, take the cover off ad then just 6 (think) bolts with 10mm heads to remove to get the pressure plate off and then the plates out.

With the bike on the side stand you don't have to drain the oil either.
