ZX7R Arrived! Advice on riding needed

My ZX7 arrived yesterday & i'm going to insure/tax it on monday. I will be riding it for the first time this week & have not been on a sports bike before. Only ridden trails & a bandit. I'm basically asking before I take it out for advice on how to adapt to the riding position & what differences there will be with cornering? I am having visions of getting to the first bend & not being able to turn the bugger. Any advice much appreciated.

Congrats on the bike.

My advice - the riding position will obviously feel different but shouldn't effect your riding.

Use more 'road' when taking corners as I made that mistake when going from the upright position to race position. You should get used to it after a few corners.

Just take it easy for a bit, if you've ridden a bandit most of it should come fairly naturaly.

When it comes to the corners, what should I do about leaning? Also is true to turn the bars with my wrists & not push down on them at all?

ERr... you lean with the bike Confused

If you're not used to hanging off, now probably a bad time to start Smile

... get used to the bike first.

For pretty much any road bike it is allways best to ride with your arms parralel to the road... try riding with your ams pretty much locked straight and try wiggling the bars, then try it with your amrs flat to the road, then you'll see why.

also be careful when you first ride it as if its new tyres on it they may still have the casting resadue on them and they'll need scubbing in like any new tyre

The other thing that gets me is that because it's the first 'faired' bike i've had, the fact of the bars moving but not the fairing is real disorientating.

ofcourse i have no intention of buying it.

You say you've ridden a Bandit before...urr I take it you rode it down the street and back? If u can ride a Bandit you can ride a ZX-7R, all bikes lean when you turn em, I don't think i've ever experienced a bike that you actually have to 'Steer' round corners.

yeah the sr250 I had on holiday you had to sort of turn the bars a bit to turn it.... very disorientating
