tescos new 99 octane petrol rubbish?

when i filled my bike up with this stuff my tick over droped to about 800 rpm which wasnt good,when i should make it tick faster shouldnt it? soon as i filled up with normal juice later it was fine?

Hi

High octane fuel on a Bandit is just a way to waste money. It will give you no more power at all.

Only has an advantage on an engine set up to use it (in which case failing to use it could cause serious engine damage) or which has a knock sensor and feedback to the ECU to adjust the timing (and boost) to take advantage of it.

Best way to describe it would be doing a running race in the best pair of track shoes ever. An advantage if they are in your size, but a disadvantage if they are the wrong size.

I've started using that recently on the ZX6R and probably will do on the RS125 as it says on the tank to use a petrol with 95 octane or higher. Can't say I'm noticing an improvement in the performance though.

The octane rating of gasoline tells you how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. When gas ignites by compression rather than because of the spark from the spark plug, it causes knocking in the engine. Knocking can damage an engine, so it is not something you want to have happening. Lower-octane fuel can handle the least amount of compression before igniting.

The use of a higher octane fuel than required, is a twofold mistake. You are wasting money and can possibly do damage to the engine. Using a higher than require octane rated fuel will not increase performance, or offer any benefits whatsoever. The engineers who designed the engine know full well what octane fuel it needs. The octane rating of gasoline determines how much the fuel can be compressed before it spontaneously ignites. That is all it does!

I ONLY use the Tesco 99RON fuel but only cos I HAVE to.
Me car is a jap import and the ECU needs 100RON fuel.
Even with the 99RON fuel my knock sensor keeps retarding the ignition! Mad

But if you reset the ECU then all is well again and frees around another 20bhp! Smile

What peeps have said is right - don't use unless you have to.
Waste of money and CAN cause damage if the engine isn't setup for it.

I too have a Jap import (Mitsi FTO) in which I use the super unleaded but I use ordinary unleaded in the 'Cat.

I use Optimax in the RGV, but thats because it has got 'o' ring heads which means the compression has been upped somewhat.

Chaps, unless you've had some serious internal mods then you're wasting your time and money using this high octane stuff.

Your normal superbike is designed to run on bog standard 95 octane unleaded petrol. Even if you put jet fuel in it it wont make it go any faster - it'll just fuck it up.

Tried it in the NSR a couple of times, made it run a little smoother. Not worth it for the extra cost though, it's only JUST noticeable Laughing

I ran it on leaded fuel a couple of times too (when I'd run out and only had a jerry can of leaded for the lawnmower in my garage). It ran well nice at low revs, really clean, but at about 10k it was a bit juddery.
