Iv had quotes on the xr250/400 for when i am 17 and both were about £450. Trail type bikes are meant to be cheaper to insure than most other bikes, according to the dealer at the garage. I would go for a 4 stroke, bikes like the xr are so reliable and will go on for ever, but things like the more competitive wr bikes tend to need a lot more maintenance due to being highly tuned.

The seat height on a xr 250 is 914 mm, the seat height on a yz is 998 mm so you should have no problems.
