Asides from drivers going through red lights when mine have just changed to green, I think this incident was the most dangerous driving I have seen that could have directly affected me on the bike.

I was on the West side of the Oxford Ring Road in the 50mph section doing a bit over 50 in the outside lane of the dual carriageway overtaking some slower vehicles.

In my mirrors I noticed someone coming up fairly quickly behind me and though it was just some agressive prick in a hurry. I knew we were coming up to the NSL section, so I just thought I would hold my speed and make sure I dominated the lane with my positioning, then open the throttle at the NSL and speed away.

The car got very close, then vanished from my mirrors - it was overtaking me even though I was in the outside lane! I didn't think there was anyway the car could get past but she was right over near the central crash barrier!

I put my thumb on the horn and kept it there for a good long while. I was kind of in disbelief so kept up with her just sounding the horn. I then went alongside her and kept sounding the horn (just got the horn fixed today!

Twisted Evil )

It wasn't some male prick though - it was a bloody pensioner - must have been in her 60s! Shocked Evil or Very Mad

I kept sounding the horn and she paid absolutely no attention to me. I think she might have mouth 'oh go away', but there was absolutely no acknowledgement. I think I would have been happier if she'd given me the finger!

I looked in the car to see if there was a dying child in there or something as that was the only excuse that I could think of for that sort of driving, but she was alone.

I know it doesn't sound much when you put it in writing - 'She did a dodgy overtake' but imo it was really fu**ing dangerous. It's the fu**ing cheek of it - like I wasn't important enough to take care around so she could just barge past me. It made absolutely no difference to her progress anyway.

So, I got her reg plate number. Should I report it as dangerous driving or am I wasting my, and the police's, time?

What do the police actually do when a member of the public just reports someone for dangerous driving?

Tell them that you saw a dead bird in the back of the car, and she was laughing manically and holding a bottle labelled 'Anthrax'.

They should take up the case straight away. Thumbs Up

Probably nothing TBH unless she caused an accident later on.

Unless they slap her wrists with verbal?

Report it and find out. Smile

Someone once reported my ex husband for dangerous driving as he overtook and a stone hit the guy's windscreen.

They used his reg to trace him, came to our house, cautioned him and took a statement which sent the sh1ts up him, so yeah go for it...she needs scaring into not doing it again or next time she could injure someone or worse.

Go for it Thumbs Up

I've had exactly the same happened to me but in my case the car ACTUALLY MOUNTED the central reservation to get past me...

Also today had a car decided to do a Uturn by going over the shallow bit of the central reservation (Presumable there to let people cross the road) and then his car slipped backwards and nearly hit me as he lost control of it.

The police do do somthing,

I should no as my own mum got grassed up!!

Basicly she did a 180 at this junction ( it was on a A road with a proper central crash barrier thing, and there was a gap inbetween the barriers where cars are alloud to 180 )

Anyway she went a bit to quick on the exit ( She drives a twin turbo celica which does 0-60 in around 5 secs which is fast for a car, and even faster for a person like my mum!! ) and lost the back end a bit, it just steped out which lead her to take the inside curb a bit.

Anyway someone reported her ( rightly so as they thought she was drunk and a danger to the road! ) and about 15 mins after she came home a panda cop car pulled up, she explained what happend, and then they breathalised ( that spelt right? ) her!

Cant see the police being able to do somthing about this women but maybe it will shit her up, hell maybe they might find somthing on her like her eye sights to bad!

Oh and by the way, no my mum wasnt drunk.. Mr. Green

Well I just phoned the police and they said I have to go to my local police station and make a report. The reason I have to go in person is that I have to sign something.

Then the police have 6 months to send her a letter.

So she would at least definitly get a letter which should put the sh1ts up her and maybe prevent her doing it again.

I had a pensioner pull out on me when I was about 15 feet away from
him.

No not on a bike - I was in the car.

He turned and ooked and just pulled out, I had to emergency slam on.

I reported in to the police.

They went round, he claimed he did not know of the incident.

Which he probably didn't , I honestly think he didn't see me and for this reason, he should not be driving, I told that to the police. He was in his 80s.

Steve, ain't that an almost similar circumstance to what happened to me. I didn't bother reporting it to the police as i knew they'd do fuck all.

But at least in your case, some action was done. Difficult in the heat of the moment, but taking down registration plates just for memory might be worthwhile.

Yeah they do do some thing. We were in our car and this old boy pulled out in front of us, so we slammed on our brakes and held the horn on. We didnt even touch his car and he lost controle, drove up onto the curb and fell out of his door waving a sandwich at us. He then decided to tailgate us for the next few miles. A few weeks later we get a letter from the police claiming we hit this guys car and he can prove it because he had red paint marks on his car, which would not have happened if we had hit him as we were in a discovery which was red, but the bumpers are black so he could not have got red marks on his car.

Obviously what she did was dangerous in overtaking you the way she did. However, if I saw someone coming up fast behind me I'd try and pull in when safe to do so. At the end of the day if she wants to go breaking the speed limit its down to her and I would'nt try to enforce the speed limit by not letting her pass. Also I'd be more happier knowing that if I did have to break suddenly that there would'nt be someone right up me ass, so to speak.

Just to clarify, I wasn't being one of those 'I am doing the speed limit therefore there is no need for you to pass me' -type people.

I think I was probably exceeding the speedlimit (but by less than 10mph) and I was overtaking the vehicles on my LHS, so there was need for me to overtake.

I completely agree that if you are in the outside lane and you see another vehicle approaching quickly then you should pull in, but if you are yourself already overtaking vehicles and exceeding the speed limit anyway, then I think the git behind can wait for a few seconds.

Today I had my first taste of dangerous driving. I was going along a dual carriageway in the outside lane, and there was a very long flatbed in the lane next to me. Just pootling along, bothdoing the limit, I'm about halfway down the side of him. All of a sudden, he starts to indicate and move into my lane!! I shat myself, not much I could do just slow down and move right over to the kerb and duck. I don't know why I ducked Laughing

Pulled along side him beeping the horn and giving him the wanker sign, he clearly didn't look to see if he was there and he would have been totally fucked if he'd have done it to a car.

Thumbs Down

I think you are right to report her Major as she sounds like someone who shouldnt be in control of a car.

But ponder this, is that not what we do when filtering? Create a 3rd lane. Granted this is slightly different and not in slow moving traffic, but prepare yourself in case the police ask you that.

It is perfectly legal for a bike to filter past stationary or slow moving traffic. It is NOT for a car.

According to the person I phoned at TVP, she will get a letter from the police 'warning' her about her behaviour. I think to actually prosecute or anything like that, you would need to have an independent witness.
