Hello all..

A while ago i posted with problems.. the bike was dieing off/boging down@<1500 revs, basicly at idle.. useing the choke didn't help at all, twisting the throttle back does...even whth the bike at full operateing temp the same happens..

Initially i thought it was wet HT lead related (changed them and the plug caps and the plugs) have now realised its the COLD that its not likeing!! (its got bloody wet recently but happened at all till its dropped below zero again)

Could it be the thermostat? (sticking open overcooling the engine?) or carb related?* the plugs are defenately the right ones.. so whats going on?

Before anyone says carb iceing i doubt very much it is, it does it at standstill and dosn't seem to be any other time (or at least its not noticablely dragign the bike down at speed suddleny) will try csome of that silkoline stuff anyways.. but cx's do NOT get carb iceing, never hered of it before ever...

i know for a fact its out of balance too so could that be related? (sorting that asap, hopefully tomorrow)

Anything else obvious i might have missed?

thanks for reading

*
in the process of rebuilding a pair, nearly done so will be trying them anyways,

My gixxer does the same, it rides fine, but when you hit the lights it bogs and dies then doesnt idle too well or at all.

Pull away and ride its fine.

I think its condensation forming on the ice cold throttle butterlys which then drips when the bike is idling and strangling the motor, then when the butterfly is opened the engine breaths ok again.

Thing is, i've had another cx, which has the same engine, same carbs, and slightly different airbox (this one has a side loaded filter instead on from the top) and in the same conditions it was quite happy Neutral which makes me know its something fixable..

Will try the carbs, tappets and balance, see if that helps.. maybe its something up with the carbs, they have been on 20 years afterall...

(thanks for the reply Thumbs Up )

Make sure all the electrics have clean and secure connections, including the battery before you do anything else. I've had a lot of fun and games with my bikes with loose connections leading to misfires, running on a single pot, resistance to starting and stalling. Neutral

fit new leads and caps, then silicone all the joints and spray with sealer liberally.

Its NOT electrical, its been utterly pissed on on several occasions and showed no sign of it, (even went as far as spraying the leads all the way allong with water and it wasn't bothered by it at all) last three times its manifested its been totaly dry just extreemly cold Thumbs Down

Carbs will be going on tomorrow night all being well so will be interesting to see if it helps (allthough i hope the weather gets less bastardwell stupid Rolling Eyes )

may possibly be carb balance, if one is very low relative to the other it will cause the bike to stall when its very cold.
