Tomorrow i will be sitting on a panel to discuss a proposal to change the hazard perception test from video footage to computer animation.

I recently did it, just before xmas and they rang up and asked me to sit on the panel as i live nearby to the centre i presume.

I think it is probably a bad idea but they are showing us the new clips so will have to wait and see.

Anyone got any views?

Hazard perception is a poorly thought out test anyway. I passed first time, but many people take 2 or 3 goes to pass it even with all the DVDs etc. Clarifying how the test works would be a better use of their resources. Even some of the DVLA centre staff don't know how it works!

I think the clips need to be more orianted towards bikers than just being a general.

For example, mud on the road, water on the road, man hole covers, painted road markins are more of risks to bikers than car drivers.

The format and execution of the HPT are so confusing that I'm sure most people who fail haven't even got a clue why!

Clear examples, with full explanations, would go a long way towards helping people pass.

I think the only reason i have agreed to sit on this panel is because i did it recently and found it totally confusing, and therefore have an opinion on it. I did pass but i have no idea how.

Maybe computer animation would make it clearer but surely the point is you actually have to 'spot' the hazard.

I think it should be made more simple to use rather than changing the format.
