Just took the missus on the bike as a pillion passenger for the first time. It was very odd, the extra weight made so much difference to turning, stopping, steering, just about every aspect of riding. I'd never taken a passenger before and rode like I was just starting out all over again. She didn't mind the experience at all but I was concentrating harder than I can ever remember.

I used to love going pillion but since I started riding myself I hate it. It's bloody terrifying.

Does this success mean that you'll be able to convince her to do her CBT? Wink (Unless of course she rides already)

The extra weight does make a difference. Starting off can be similar to doing a hill start every time. Might be worth notching up the suspension a tad when having a pillion. Try not to do it in front of her though as, in my experience, having to explain it's for the extra weight does not go down too well Wink Very Happy

As soon as we got home she was on the net looking for a riding school nearby. She's got the bug already!

passenger's can be very good as a handling boost, if you start of slow in a yard doing left and right hand turns, you will both get a feel for the bike.

the steering will go light, the bike will wobble from side to side and the whole expeirance can be fun.
try looking ahead as you move off that way you won't wobble all over, when you turn left at slow speeds you dont really use the leaning method too much, just use the steering. as you get faster you can then add a little lean, Only in a yard try to get the passenger to lean the opposite way, you'll both learn so much from that horrible habit of incorrect leaning. haha just reminded me of a vid where a women falls off the back of a bike when the rider wheelies. Looks like she just lets go! Shocked

I used to go pillion with my dad when I was bout 10-11 but only round the block. Then when when I got the chance to go on the back of a blade I jumped at the oppurtunity. Scared the living hell outta me and the rider only done 100ish (private road of course Wink ). I pretty much decided I was getting a bike after he had done about 100 meters from the lights and down the sliproad... Shocked Mr. Green I was anti-bike back then. Would never had got me on one! In fact I had already started to get my driving licence by taking my car theory...

i ride lots two up with my mrs it takes time as not only do you have to get used to it so does your passanger they have to learn what you do and when your likely to do it communications a good idea let your passenger know when to grip harder with there legs im just as fast with my mrs on the back of my rvf400 as without its just smoother like wet weather riding with her on.

but if you take someone new out you have to start all over again build a relationship and confidence up for the pillion riders and dont take experianced riders out they panic at the slightest thing Laughing

I used to ride pillion all the time until I got bitten and got my own licence. Occassionally ride pillion and although its nice to just sit and chill I am more aware and Nick being an experienced rider just rides as he does without me, its like I am not there on the back, thats what I want to be able to do with our daughter. She always rides pillion, is becoming a right little biker chick. I have taken her just twice on my bike but still need more practice, its fine on the straight just those junctions and corners I can feel the extra wieght and un nerves me a little and she is fine on the back, knows how to sit there, doesnt fidget etc, its just me that needs to polish up.

Dont think there is a minimum age, friend of ours rode all the way from sussex to somerset with his 10 year old daughter riding pillion. Iv only tried riding with a pillion once and i really dont think my bike is suited to it Laughing
