Over run, WHAT?

I have been told that my RVF spits out flames on the over run, hhhhhhhmmmmmm fair enough. What the hell is the over run? I have seen it do it though and it looks a bit cool
Why does this happen anyhow?

Happens on quite a few bikes with race cans. Don't know exactly why or what the exact definition of 'over run' is, but my understanding is that when you throttle off a small amount of fuel is passed into the exhaust and ignites causing small backfires (type things).

You havn't been putting dodgy petrol in it have you?

When mine did that, it was the fuel pump was slightly knackered. Although I had a flame coming out the back all the time

It's a characteristic of the V4...a lovely burble and pop when the engine slows down...as Stew said, it's probably caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust.

My nsr used to pop(backfire) and have small flames come out at the same time when i shut the throttle off or downshifted after hammering it but that stopped by itself after a while
A m8 used to make his bike backfire and shoot flames out by flicking the engine cut off switch off then on quickly whilst he was giving it sum throttle only tried this at standstill in nuetral tho, so might not work whilst overtaking nova's, lol
