Anyone know if anybody makes them?

Although they all seem to be getting slimmer and lighter, the screens seem to be getting bigger, what with widescreen etc.

What I really need is something about the size of a portable DVD player (I'm sure you've seen those) so a PDA is too small and a standard laptop is too big.

I've googled but the smallest screen size I can find is about 12". Ideally I would like 7-8".

Price is not an issue, but ability to be able to access my work server vis the internet is.

Any suggestions?

Toshiba do one with a tiny screen; the Libretto (7.2" screen). Be warned though - it is very small!

The ibm Xseries (i think) are tiny.. cybercom/medion were makeing some very small and bloody good ones, staples did them.. not sure if they have them now...

Can defenately reccomend toshibas too though, allways prefered them (and i've tinkered with a fair few different laptops)

Jo,

How about a 12" Apple iBook?

They only go for around £600 now, and there very small and light.

They will do everything you need and more, and you might be able to get one even cheaper as they are about to be replaced by the Intel based Macbook.

They're really small too, but still pack a punch, and weigh next to nothing. Although if you want to keep Windows you better off waiting for the intel offerings.

There's a Sony PDA which is shaped like a laptop, I think it's about a 6 or 7 inch screen. Argos were selling them at half price (£200) about a year ago, so God knows what they are now.

Another vote for the 12" iBook/Powerbook - I took a 12" PB to New Zealand and it was great for connectivity, keeping everyone up to date back home, camera downloads, photo CD burning for people while I was there, DVD burning of movies and pics etc etc...oh yeah - and it plays DVDs Wink

If you can wait until the summer there should be a 12" version of the MacBook that'll run Windows as well if you want...

If you don't fancy a Mac, the Sony Laptops are pretty good (Vaio) and they come in a variety of small form factor flavours, some of which are very much geared towards portable media entertainment (play DVDs without booting to Windows etc etc)

A.

I've got a JVC Mininote and its ok. It's cool cos it has a CD/DVD built in so you can use it as a portable DVD player if you want.

Have a look on ebay there are occasionally a few going!

What are you going to be using it for?

I've got an Acer Tablet PC and it's quite small 10" TFT, about the same size as a sheet of A4.

I don't think it's been mentioned but JVC do the MP-XV841 (there may be others in the range), unless it's what Rob called a Mininote.

Small screen and about £800 (ballpark).
Found some info here (click) and review here.

It has the look and size of the portable DVD player you were after.

I tried to look this up on the JVC site and can only find accessories, so may be a discontinued model (but I cannot be sure Confused).

Hope this helps Thumbs Up Very Happy

Doh Doh! Just checked Rob's eBay link and this is exactly what it is Rolling Eyes
