Could you go back to a smaller bike after say a year or more on a 1000cc+ bike ?

I'm sure people find the power totally unnecessary and do switch back. The performance of sports 600s compared to litre bikes is minimal, and i'd guess an '06 R6 could easily keep with an R1 round a track, if not out perform it.

Should i take it your toying with the idea of upsizing? If so, just get some test rides.

I'm thinking of buying another NC30 to play with, if that's anything to go by. I'd like a bike I can use nearly all it has to offer (without as much a fear as loosing my licence or ending up in a hedge).

Plus I can't afford an RC30.....

I went from a 955cc Daytona to a TT600, and the TT600 was more suited to me.

My Buell is bigger in capacity, but less powerful (even less than the TT600) and smaller, and again, more suited to me.

So yes, you can go from a powerful bike, to a less powerful bike and be happy.

I rode a 143hp race specced zx9 and went to an rs250 for fun.

If you try and properly thrash a big bike then you will are likely to be at licence losing (and possible prison sentance) speeds a lot of the time as well as seriously endangering your life if you are doing it on the road.

Get most of me fun on track, but wouldn't want much more than 100hp on track as I'm no where near good enough to properly use it.

No Thumbs Down

I love my 750 to bits, the thought of riding a bike thats not as throbbing kinda makes me feel disappointed Eh? I know that modern day sports 600's would arse rape my old girl, but maybe its a conscious thing that the cc isn't as big?

Maybe I'm just trying to compensate Shifty

I havent ridden a thou , currently got a GSXR 750 and i find that more than enough on the road

Had an R6 before which while still being plenty fast enough had to be worked through the gears a bit more than the Gixxer does

Im sure Wave2k will agree with me that the 750 is the thinking mans bike

Perfect balance for the road i reckon

Hi

Ride and own all sorts of capacity of bike, ranging from a 150hp+ 1200 Bandit down a 125s. Ultimate performance is not the be all and end all of a bike being fun.

All the best

Keith

Personnaly I would not go back by choice. I don't need or use my bike to anywhere near its capabilities. But I am a lazy fucker and cant be arsed to change gear and like the roll on. Also easy for 2 up riding.

I,m think of going back to a 600cc after the summer, insurance should be cheaper and runing cost also. I Would love a fireblade or a ZX9/10 but insurance is a piss take and my career looks like its going down the pan. Sad

Well i trounced my mate on his R1 on the A507. Possibly because i know it more and hes still abit green. But alot of it is simply because you cant get the power down.

I like the fact on the CBR its right on the line of enough power. Its fast enough, it wheelies enough, yet its easy enough to get it down without fear.

After having a quick buzz on the R1 ive decided i prefer the CBR. The r1 felt the same (maybe a bit more torquey, but alot of thats windblast) maybe with an extra 20 mph ish on the same roads, but id never feel safe just randomly dropping a cog.

If i spent a year on a litre (and wasnt being buggered by a guy called merv or pushing up daisies) id imagine it would be easy to downgrade to a v-twin litre or inline 4 6. Or even v4 400 etc.
Just as its nice to thrash something. Top speed is top speed whatever bike you are on. And assuming its vaguely sporty and you can ride to an extent, it will usually be enough.

From the replies so far it's obvious there's a sports bike bias.
As for me, I'll keep to my 1000cc+ tourer. It offers far more flexibility than a smaller bike does (and FWIW I do still have the smaller bike).

I definitely like the laziness, however the fact that then the bike feels a lot less fun (or a lot more licence losing) if I'm trying to go fast counteracts that.

I also have a slight problem with self control - if I have 140hp, I tend to use it Neutral.

Yeah but, You don't have to use it. The only time I use the full power is when a fcuk \/\/IT cager is up my rear then I just bolt off ... also the 'extra' power tends to feel safer. With power comes greater responsibility... Thats what spidermans uncle told him anyway Thumbs Up

I wouldn't go back because I am also lazy. Once you've had the torque of a litre bike, a 600 just feels gutless. I rode my mates Gixxer 6 after my Blade and I felt like I was thrashing it all the time, the Blade just feels like less work to even pootle around on.

Cheers

Yes guttless thats the word I was looking for... I've been riding a my Vmax and have had to use a Bandit 600 for a while whilst I do some work on the V4... the 600 feels guttless and I'm having to constantly thrash it to keep to even legal speeds... and it doesn't sound like its impressed by me doing this either! Embarassed

That's the lack of control thing - sticking a load of hp under my right hand, then expecting me to only twist the throttle half way.

I've got enough control to not do silly speeds most of the time if I put my mind to it, but no way am I only twisting the throttle half way in the first one or two gears Smile.

I've been riding a bit more sensibly in the last week (front facing camera in a car last weds, hovering around the thresholds for getting done) and noticed that cars do indeed sit up my arse on the motorway on occasion - don't normally have that.
However my stock SV650 is fine to bugger off if I want to Smile.

Never really 'fealt' safer with more power and doubt it is safer really, but <shrugs>, if it works for you Smile.

The 'fun' bit is more of the issue for me though - trying to slightly thrash 140hp on UK roads is a lot more fraught with problems than with under half that.

If you can't restrict yourself to using less than full throttle, don't ever get a litre sports bike, FFS. I am as happy pootling along on the Blade as I am going for a Sunday blast, this is why I don't want the new CBR1000 or a new sports bike, they are too extreme for mere pootling.

Cheers
