As I was saying. Ive done 2 of my 5 days both have been on a 125. I think I got 1 more day on the 125 then onto the 500. Its been constant riding. Like doing your CBT but when you go out on the road. The instructors have all shown me the U-Turn/E-Brake spots which is handy and explained what to expect on my test. Ive found it quite fun since Ive not ridden anything other than my scoot before starting the DAS.

My only problem was clutch control really and forgetting the clutch lever was no longer a rear brake. Getting used to the way the bike handles though wasnt a problem although im a little nervous about getting on the 500 because of the weight/power/handling/my mistakes. The most fun Ive had so far is going up and down the local dual carriageway (A38 for those who may know it). I cant wait to do it on the 500! Mr. Green

edit...

Same here. I didnt expect that. They teach you while your out riding.. Its a shame you cant talk back though... Thats partly how I managed to bin the 125 on the first day.

My first day was "conversion". Hadn't ridden since my CBT a month earlier, so started off on the 125 to get back into the swing of it, then went onto the ER5. Smile Went for a road ride late afternoon.

Day 2 started out with slow speed control stuff (u-turns, slalom etc) then a ride out in the country Thumbs Up then onto the test routes.

Day 3 riding round town, test routes, maneouvers etc

Day 4 couple of hours riding then test. (Failed it unfortunately!)

1st day

15 minutes round the block on a 125

some class room theory

clutch control in car park to get used to feel of ER5

nice gentle country road trip, ( got congratulated and told off in one go for my "aggressive attack" on a combined hump bridge & bend

2-4 days repeatedly riding round town, main roads and 30 minutes a day on u turns etc

1st day
Return to riding on Yam 125, quick go on pad and then out on the open road Thumbs Up

Spent ages just riding through town and then out onto B roads. Practised loads of U turns and the occasional E stop.

I had 1:1 for the whole day Thumbs Up Laughing

Very little classroom action

2nd day
Again on the 125, more town riding and maneuvers, 3 other riders today Crying or Very sad Today was all about ironing out bad habits, getting in the habit of life savers and observations.

A little more classroom action

Discussed the test and whats expected, get a lot of negative feedback to improve upon.

At the end of the day, we all sat on the ER5 that we will be on tomorrow. My god it felt like a fecking monster compared to the pogo stick of a 125 Cool

Day 3
Quick go on the pad on the ER5 to get used to the brakes and clutch.

Out on the open roads, in and about town, lots of U turns. Foot hasn't touched down in 2 days Thumbs Up

Face was aching like mad fro all the smiling Laughing

Best bit about today was when we went on a major A road to play with the cars and practice overtaking them Twisted Evil

Day 4
Practice, practice, practice before the test just after lunch

The DAS was the best £600 odd quid I have eer spent, I really enjoyed it Thumbs Up

I found that the 500 was easier to ride. I was worried at first but once i was on it, it felt so much better. Good luck!

Yes! My intructor told me that any errors and bad habits I was doing on the 125, I stopped immediately on the 500! It just felt a lot safer, studier, and more powerful! Laughing

I liked it Laughing

Thats good to hear. Although im nervous im also excited. Cant wait to go down the sliproad Very Happy

Going from a scoot to a 125 was quite a difference too. How are the front ends when you slip the clutch on the gs500's? Just thats my main worry cos I still think im a little heavy handed..

I had done 2 hours on a 125 the week before, done 30-40 minutes in the paddock just pushing it to get used to the weight, riding forward then stopping to feel the clutch and brakes, then some u-turns and slalom.

After that it was out on the road Mr. Green

I was worried about the weight at first but once you get moving the bike just feels much more planted on the road than a 125.

Enjoy it! When I first hit a 60 limit it was the most exciting thing ever Laughing

Very Happy. My scoot and the 125's are boring already.. pin the throttle back and the response is practically nothing Neutral .. hence the reason I want my full licence Smile

This is long, sorry!!

So, had my second day of my DAS today, (a week after the first) got the bike out, got used to the biting point again, and did some block work, then went out to a single carraigeway, ...60 I thought...nice!

....then to a dual carriage way! 70 Laughing get in!!!

It was all going smoothly, until we tried doing some U-Turns in a very very narrow road. I just can't do one with full lock! I'm fine on a standard road, but I can't do a full lock, maybe tomorrow...

I struggled too much, and was annoyed at myself which probably reflected my riding..

I managed to do possibly the stupidest thing in the world, stalled the bike with a massive que of cars and the poor other guy who was doing the lesson with me, behind me, and as I stalled in in second gear, on a hill with an angle, I couldn't stop the bike from tipping over! Looking back, it's just another comedy moment in my (comedy) life, like those films where the people just say 'noooooo' I was just saying 'shiiiiit!' and damn the bikes heavy when you're trying to pick it up!!

Had a breather for 5 mins to get over myself and cool down and relex, after that everything seemed to go okay! I'm just hoping I don't have a disaster like that on my test day, Brick Wall

Something really cool happened today tho, we were sort of 'escorted' from one part of town to another by about 5 bikers Very Happy I was well chuffed!!

Another update tomorrow... Wink

Don't be nervous & look forward to it, you shouldn't spend too long in the training school as you did that on the Cbt, and above all remember that the Instructors are Qualified to do this and not just Faking it !!

I did my CBT in Oct 04 - then had 3 two hour lessons during the following fortnight.

Then didnt ride until my DAS Last month.

Day 1 - CG125, straight out on road - 1/2 hr round car park doing U turns, then off up the bypass. Other trainee Lad on GS500 rammed me at the first roundabout as he thought I had gone but I stalled - and he launched himself into the roundabout, dropping the bike. I just sat there bemused.

rest of Day riding around. 6 hours in total.

Day 2 - straight out on GS500 - up to the airfield with the wheelie school, did some gear changing up and down thru bollards, turning in circles and doing U turns.

Rest of day riding around. went to test route, had a ride about, emergency stop and u turns . 6 hours in total.

Day 3 - full day riding out on 500, dual carriageway, bypass, lots of town driving - was knackered by end of day. 6 hours.

Day 4. 1 hour round test route, perfected U turns. Test. Passed.

Went out and bought my storm, got on it and hoofed it up the bypass then did a 1000 mile ride in 5 days.

sorted.

happy.

YES!!!

Hadn't been on a bike for a month as I mentioned earlier, and told this to my instructer, although obviously he knew this..duh.. and we went for a quick ride, before practising on the tightest roads, with cambers, doing U-turn, after U-turn, after U-turn. Then going to another segment of road, and doing more U-turns, and after a while I SORTA got the hang of it!

So came the test, the instructor was a lot more relaxed, which helped me relax, and there was lots of traffic as well, which helped the time go past, came to do the U-turn, and it was this huge wide road, I was so happy! Did the U-turn successfully and kissed the bike. Rest of the ride was a piece of piss, back in the exam place, he told me that I passed and I only got 1 minor so I was well chuffed!!

So with the euphoria of passing still running through me, I had to get 2 busses, and a tube home. The whole time I had a huge smile on my face. Passers by and people on the bus gave me funny looks and I'm sure they were wondering why I was on a bus with a helmet, smiling like a tit, but I'm sure they find out when they seen a bike filtering through traffic that the bus or car is sitting in!

Laughing

LOVE IT! Bike shopping time!!
