I think next month I might be able to buy a second hand PC or laptop, basically I need to store lots of tunes, lots of pictures and media. I’m not too fussed on the graphics for games although if it could come into my price range of about £200.
The thing has to be quick, have a modem for use later with broadband and be able to cope with the usual crap you deal with when using the machine daily.
I think the main thing is speed and storage.

Can some of you recommend a machine, perhaps you have one, or know someone who is getting rid of a good setup.

I would definately use Daz's link to get a new PC.

Bear in mind that you'll get more PC for the money than you would laptop. And PC's tend to have greater storage than laptops which seems to be a requirement of yours.

Most of those PC's in Daz's link also have a full version of XP Media Centre too. Which is always a bonus.

for £200 you can get a crap reconditioned (second hand) laptop which will generally be a super fast processor which will generally overheat all the time , mine was £300 runs at 2.5gig , 512mb ram , it runs so hot it can burn you.

Yes.

There's also a dell outlet shop on dell.co.uk which is currently £55 off all models (need to select it after you've chosen your outlet machine) and free delivery, which probably makes it cheaper than eBay at the moment.

Was going to suggest a PC for what you want to do but others beat me to it.

Problem with a laptop is limited disk size, unless you've got a 250Gb+ external unit, but then why have a laptop and another box?

It's also easier to upgrade a PC (motherboard, processor, memory) than a laptop.

Just my thoughts Thumbs Up
