Passing a few tidy bike on my way into work tonight on the other side of the road. They all looked in my direction so I gave them a nod but never got a nod back!! Was it because I was on my scooter and they proberbly thought "Fuckin chav, who is he nodding at?" or dont bikers and scooters nod to each other??

I have had my scooter almost two years now for the reason to build my no-claims so my bigger bike (VFR800) wont be a kick in the bollocks when it comes to insurance.

I know there are a few scooter riders on this forum so am wondering if they dont get the nod either!? and to the big biker boys (LOL!) why the fuck dont you nod!!!??? Mad

Cause your riding a scooter and mainly chavs ride scooters hence why not alot of scooters will get nod given back.

Some bikers wont even look at you Laughing

I think its mainly to do with the respect thing, once you've passed your test done your theory and earnt your place on the road and riding a bigger bike you earn a bit more respect and you get more nods, Thumbs Up Or it could be that they just think your a chav! Laughing Dan Thumbs Up

You are proberbly right on trhat matter, even though I have had my full bike licence since before they changed the rules in 1997 but obviously the other bikers dont know that!!

I would like to hear from more scooter riders on the subject.

On another quick note, when I was doing my lessons/test down in Portsmouth I had a number of nods even though I was on a 125 with l plates! Maybe they are more friendly down there instead of the ignorant fuckers up here!! Confused

I'll nod at a scooter if it's out of town. Takes more balls to ride a 50cc on a NSL twisty than to ride anything else, imo.

Must be what type of bike, I'm on my L's, and I get nods, but I'm on a crusier, plus I wear proper leathers and a black lid, not a man-made moped jacket and a bright blue lid!

Correct, so they all have two wheels and should be given the same respect. When my VFR is underneath me I will nod at scooter because I know where I have come from (unless they are wearing a shell suit Rolling Eyes )

Personally i'll make special effort to nod learners on bikes, scootay riders generally never EVER nod back, but will return a nod if one is sent my way... (if they are wearing propper gear then i'll nod as well, does tend to confuse them 99% of the time)

Bike to nod ratio goes down this time of year, haveing somebody look down their nose at you cause your not rideing this years colour schemed bike and leathers, or because your not on something with far too much chrome and far too many tassles... is sort of annoying.. but i prefer to assume not everyone on a summertime only bike* is a poncy stuck up peenarse or not seen nod, or dosn't know what it is! (had to explain to a very confused paranoid mate why people were noding at him Laughing )

*which is no bad thing, i'd like a weekend toy

Its nothing to do with L-plates, I always got nods when I was on my Eliminator 125. I think that the reason the majority of bikers don't nod to scooters is many bikers know that the majority of people simply own them for convienience and don't share that 'biker' passion (unlike many of the scooter riders on here.)

Theres also the whole Ped Boi thing of course! Laughing

If I was on my scooter and nodded at a chav ped boi, they nodded back.

If I was on my 125 and nodded at a chav ped boi, they nodded back.

If either of my mates on 400s (and no L plates) nod at chav ped bois, they get a glare back Laughing

It's wierd, they seem to acknowledge you if you're on L plates, as if you're in the same league as them.

Jon

I havent been getting feck all nods recently.

Not on a scooter, got good gear on (not my favourite tracksuit) although my gloves don't match the rest of my stuff and I've got big fancy Alpinestar boots on a 125.

A generally only nod to those with bigger bikes, mainly because of chavs etc and/or kids that just gets cars when they can afford to

I nod at everyone, including scooters. If your on two wheels I'll nod.

I'm not having a dig here, and this is god's honest truth but the only people I NEVER, EVER get a nod back from are cruiser riders. I've lost count the amount of times I've nodded at someone riding a cruiser, only to be completely blanked.

Just pretend they're blind and didn't see you, takes away that horrible feeling of being blanked Thumbs Up

Then imagine how they lost their vision - thinking of them stacking their chromed-out cruiser into a cactus farm usually makes you feel a little better afterwards Thumbs Up

Bah get sod all nods round my way, i agree with jonnay, other L Platers and ped bois will nod, other crossers/supermoto will generally nod, but the bigger sports bikes just ignore most the time.
