Yes they are foward facing, but very rarely they have another camera further down the road which is rear facing (saw it on men&motors)

I work not far from the M6 and M42 and on the way home pass over the top of both. Noticed that they have started sticking camera vans on the pavements on the roundabouts above them pointing down at the motorway.

Speed cameras on the motorway are downright dangerous, especially when eagle-eyed drivers spot them too late, and try to slow from 100 to 70 (more like 50, usually) in a second Confused

Oh, and thanks for the clearing up the van/camera issue Very Happy

Yeah my radar detector went balistic because of a van sat on one of the pass over places on the M42

sodding things - luckily it gave me enuf time to slam the anckers on and slow from a 100 - 50 last minute Twisted Evil

Funny i've just seen a mobile camera van on the way into uni, on the Bristol ring-road by the M32 roundabout if anyone's interested Razz. I've read in the paper about vans in N. Wales, the police claim that they can have you in both directions. I reckon they're bullsh*tting though. Razz

Laughing I had a good look at it (from the bus Confused) and i'm pretty sure it was only pointing towards to the M32 roundabout, i'm not sure about it getting traffic on the lane going towards the motorway. A mate of a mate has had 6 points from mobile camera's there in 1 month Shocked. You'd think he'd learn!

Mobile camera's are normally foward facing. Wait 14 days to find out the truth Smile How fast were you going in what limit?

This is the whole reason the government are wanting bikes to have front plates Sad

Not in all areas. Some keep the photo and will only release a copy if you go to court so theat they can rip you off for more money

All the best

There's one that's regularly just up the road from that's rear facing sometimes.... I've seen it on my side of the road with the camera pointing the direction I'm going. They aren't allowed to take readings from the other side if the road.

This is a smallish van, with small lettering on the front and sides... and big stripes on the back, so they park with the front facing the traffic so that you don't notice.
Accident prevention my arse... it's on one of the safest bits of road to speed as well, dead straight and hardly any pedestrians or turnings.
