because I did a test ride at the nec last year, this spring I got sent something in the post for a 'buell' experience day where i could test ride a new buell. Unfortunately when I rang I couldnt do it as you have to have your license at least 12 months.

However today i got an invitation from bmw to test ride a z4. I thought it would be the same situation, but they dont care that I have only had my car license a few months, so I am gonna test ride a 3litre bmw for half an hour (accompanied).

Im gonna wait until the weather clears up but I'm looking forward to it Twisted Evil

to imho

you may have a point about appearances

however im sure they get rich scruffy builders buying beemers so im not wearing a suit

a while ago u told me that just as many people think your remarks are funny as who dont. Your karma is disputing that though.

However I think this was one of your more funny remarks so lets hope a few people rate it as funny and your karma might improve a bit

and i dont have a moped (that means 50cc and below), i have a scooter which is 250cc

to bidman

yes i think I will do a write up on here after I have done it, good idea Smile

yeah i was a bit gutted about the buell day particularly as i like bikes that are are agile in corners. Bike mags say Buells are, and marjay who had the same type of bike I have now, went for a buell because of the handling.

probably best i dont test ride bikes tho as i havnt had my tt600 long

rookie, im sure that if you ring up car dealerships you can get test rides, as i got loads of bike test rides without invitations

however when i rang the bmw dealership they asked for my name, postcode and house number. this may be do add me to the local dealers mailing list or it may be to check i was on the national mailing list. they did ask my age and im 30 but so maybe not for 18year olds.

id suggest you could ring bmw dealers saying you got the letter as Im sure they must have a few people ringing.

If I hadnt had the invite, I wdnt have asked to test drive a 3 litre z4 but that doesnt mean I wdnt have got one if I had asked.

Last year vauxhall were doing 24 hour test drives which would be great if it comes up again. Loads better than an accompanied half hour.

Carcraft's idea of a test ride is 5 minutes round the block tho. At one point i was thinking of getting a matiz but i got 2 bikes for less , and cheaper to insure.

I got the Buell stuff and went round.. told em I really want the firebolt (which they dont make anymore) but they insisted I test the lightning 12 long... Did that yesterday and now I want rid of my fazer!
It's the price though that's stopping me.. oh ye and you'd have to do something about the tractor sounds!

Anyone who at all likes Buells, get yourselves a ride... weekdays is best (at least in Leeds) as you get a whole hour... I found soem nice country roads but it was nice in town too. Thumbs Up Cool Laughing Very Happy Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Oh, great. So then you're going to be an expert on beemers and how shit they handle and still tell everyone to buy a thundercat.?

im even more impressed with thundercats now i heard that rookie got one with a few scratches on for £650

bazza, you like your bike thats the main thing. it doesnt matter if i like it or not

i expect if i ever get round to test driving the z4 roadster, i will enjoy it but think its not as fun as bike or as comfy and cheap as an old bmw 7 series.

I admit its unlikely that I will buy a z4, but if they invite me to test drive it, Id be being rude if I didnt get around to doing it.

Its just a 30 min test ride, so the current plan is to pick a dealer near some nice country roads as if i had a test ride in town, it wd be traffic lights an nothing above 40 for most of the 30 minutes.

The 3 day vauxhall test drive is looking a bit tempting too even if they havnt invited me personally.

Lucky get!

Why don't they send me these mailings, all I get is crappy Renault stuff

My boss was lucky enough to get the Aston Martin V8 for a test drive a couple of weeks ago (sadly accompanied but what do you expect) had the windows in the office open and heard it being nailed all the way down the road Mr. Green

Test drive a radical before comparing the Z4's handling to anything!

How do you get to be invited? Do you go and say you're thinking of buying one or what. Do you think I could get a go on a ZX-10R Very Happy or an Evo Cool

I think you've got to look liek you're interested in buying.. I dont mean appearance.. I turned up in trackybottoms and a rucksack and old trainers having just dropped my moutainbike off at the menders..But they spoke to me and arrange a test the next day.
I reckon If I'd not had a 600, they may not have let me though the guys at Buell are probably quite easy to get a ride as they don't sell that many and have a great product.

I bet its the fact they are in HD dealers that puts loads of people off Rolling Eyes

I guess I could get some test rides on some 600 bikes if I turn up on my 400 as 600 is the next step up really. So I can say I'm thinking of upgrading Wink

I'll try to get a go in a 350Z or Evo or something nice, no harm in trying is there, least they can do is say no!

They said on top gear bmw's are more common that ford mondeos or something. Not as exclusive as they used to be.

Audi for the win. Cool

What will happen is that you'll go into the dealership and be ushered to a desk where upon the snotty sales muppet will ask for all your contact details before going through a purchase agreement form.

Once you've bullshitted your way through the form and he has all your address details, licence details, e-mail, mobile number etc he will then go through the payment structure with you before you even get a sniff at the leather trim.

NOBODY is giving test drives in a Z4 without first getting or ya details to prove your who you say you are.
If / When you get out in it the sales muppet will drive 1st then change over in the city where you can't open it up, all the time he'll be digging and asking questions about your finances, work, family and all other irrelevant shit.

Although they'll all want your name, address and contact number (so they can try to get you to buy a car later, if you don't buy one today) I find that the less common the car, the more blase they are about giving you a decent test drive. Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, etc. usually do as you say - with the dealer driving for a bit and then they let you drive for a while. VW, Mercedes, BMW and Audi just give you the keys and tell you to bring the car back in a few hours (or on occasion, tomorrow). Sometimes they have a look at your licence, sometimes they don't. Haven't tried any real exotica, but I'm not considering buying one at present.

As for getting dressed up, forget it. I'm as likely to buy a new car wearing old jeans and trainers as I am in a suit.
