is it possible, Once youve passed your full test ( Restricted Access ) to simply ride a 125 for the 2 years you need to ride a restricted bike, and after the 2 years have finished, Simply buy and use an Un-Restrcited bike?, For example a full power R6?

Yes you can, you can ride any bike under 33bhp or restricted to 33bhp. You could ride a restricted/derestricted 125 as long as it is under 33bhp which most are. This is a list of bikes that are under 33bhp or can be restricted to 33bhp https://www.bat-motorcycles.co.uk/33bhp.asp

Theres also a power to weight ratio to take notice of.

These means some 125's still cant be de-restricted with a 33bhp license Rolling Eyes

I think he just means that the power:weight ratio on an R6 would be crap when its restricted. basicaly its like a 125 engine pulling a 600cc engine and frame. So something like a RS250 would have good power:weigh ratio because its lighter.

No.

There was a topic about this wear a RS125 derestricted was over the power to weight ratio.

It means that if you have a bike that makes 33BHP it has to weigh a minimum of 156kg.

I don't know the specs of an RS125's so i'll use the first link of google. Dry weight is roughly 120kg and it makes roughly 25kw
meaning its power to weight ratio is 0.20 which is over the ratio and illegal for a 33bhp license holder.

I have a restricted SV650 which makes my ratio 25/165 = 0.15kw/kg

Another reason why an SV is a good bike to restrict, its damn close to the power to weight ratio Smile

Hi

Dry weight of the RS125 is claimed at 115kg, wet weigth is about 140kg. For the limits the relevant power is at the crank. If they make 30hp at the crank (entirely possible, never any factory claim and only the early ones had the larger carbs and they made about 28hp at the back wheel) and the limit is based on wet weight then they are legitimate for someone on a restricted licence.

All the best

Keith
