I have a kawasaki gpz500s 1996.

I noticed today that there are a few tubes that seem to be connected at one end and just left hanging at the other.

there are 2 black ones that come somewhere from the engine and are aimed at the ground. I think they are ment to be like that?

but this transparent tube: which connects to the part below:

transparent tube connects to:

there is also a black tube that connects to fuel tank where the bolt is that you unscrew to take it off under seat? that does not seem to be connected to anything?

The first one will be the carb vacuum line, the second hanging in the air from the tank is a breather or fuel overflow, some bikes have one others both.

Pretty sure the clear one attaches to the carbs, it dumps the fuel out of the float bowl if the bike gets tipped on its side so the engine stops. The second one is the petrol tank breather/overflow. Both are supposed to finish up opening onto the road.

In addition there will be a battery breather pipe and a coolant overflow pipe. There is an airbox fluid trap on some bikes too. These all also end up pointing at the road.

Agree. The clear on is the carb breather. Make sure it isn't blocked or kinked or the bike won't run properly. And the other is just a fuel tank breather.

For the love of gawd go and buy a manual! otherwise you will find yourself with a dead bike Shocked

The carb is the thing the pipe is plugged into, the tube (if its what i think it is) is for draining the carb, it needs to exit somewhere away from the exhaust, if you empty the float bowls (temporary store of fuel for the fuel system) and it pours on a red hot exhaust, well you can imagine..

You will find the odd tube or two that seem to go nowhere, they are supposed to, if something overflows it needs to empty on the road, they should be check from time to time that they are clear Thumbs Up

If the transparent pipe comes from the bottom of the carb then it's just an overflow and needs to be poked down the back of the engine unit so it points to the ground. As said, this stops any surplus petrol spilling onto the hot engine.

It probably comes from the bottom of the float bowl (arrowed)

The other one looks like the breather pipe for the petrol tank and just pushes onto the pipe coming from the back of the tank and again should just be routed down and out of the way

The clear hose should be routed upwards between the carbs then passing under the seat and tucking down by the battery tray. Hard to explain but it shows how it should be in the manual.

Don't worry about it, everyones been there Wink

Its allways worth doing it all right, even if it means asking embarassing questions (becuase you'll feel 10times more of a dick explaining to a mechainc how you snapped this/that, they will openly mock you and charge you for the priviliage Razz )

Tuck it down next to the black one (see arrow on picture).

This isn't exactly right, but if it isn't kinked or pointing onto the top of the exhaust, it will be neat enough.
