hoi,

I am lookin to buy a 2d hand bike,
I would like to use it for fun and home/work travel. Especially
as a replacer for my old LADA NIVA 4wheeler when this one is
stuck in the garage for some repairs.

So it must be something cheep to buy and cheep insurance.

I was first thinking about an enduro (kawa kle500, transalp) but
it looks still expensive and I know I will ride in the mud with it. So
in short notice it will also be broke (like the niva sometimes)

Another option is the RG250 of 1989
I can buy one for 500€. 30000km

Would this be a good deal.

And any other advice/tips is very welcome. especially
to check a 2nd one for mistakes/errors/bad spots/........
I am e real newbie.

thx

Any two stroke 250 will not tick your critera of "cheap to run" plus it will be very unforgiving if you're not used to bikes.

I have bought myself a SUZUKI DR650 RS from 1991.

It needs some cleaning, and some new oils (motor, brakes)
then I can tell if this was a bargain.

RGV250 are a good bike, but you'll want to check what condition its in, alot have been used for racing, yeh as before not cheap to run at all. Need quite a bit of maintainence. And if the powervalves blow, they're costy aswell. Do you know if its had a engine rebuild yet?
