What mileage can I expect to get out of my BT45's on my 98 GPZ500s which is 33bhp?

I've had them a little over a month and done nearly 2000miles on them..

would like them to last until I sell it this time next year.

anyone?

cheers

At 2000 miles a month you'll be lucky!

Unless you ride extremely reservedly/sedately you will be needing to change those tyre's in about 6-8 months time, assuming you continue with that mileage.

I've not gotten though a pair while i've owned the bike so i can't be sure.

They seem to wear very slowly. I'd expect 15000 miles of fairly hard but sensible (no burnouts or lockups) riding.

My dad had about 12-15k from a set of 020's a while ago but that was granny driving.

Had 2 sets of metzler rennsports that both lasted about 1000 miles. Laughing

BT45s are a high mileage tyre, they have that dual compound thingie where they are harder in the middle but softer at the edge.

My NRS did 5000 on it's Pirelli's, my GS500 did LOADS more on it's BT45s. The easy power delivery of a 500 twin, and the qualities of the BT45s make for a long lasting combination.

I like the tyre, it gives a little slip to let you know it will let go some time soon so you can correct yourself.

they perform well in the wet,

they grip well

they are relatively cheap, £120 fitted

they are hard enough in the middle so that a motorway trip does not ruine they're beautiful and carefully sculptured curves,

only niggle is that my chain lube seems to collect on the left of the rear.. still grips well mind Shocked

so we think 15000miles ish? maybe a new set january net year of cheapies just for selling her then.

goodo Smile

All depends on your riding style really, rag it, they will wear quickly, take it easy and you can maybe double their life. Thumbs Up

when i used bt45's i usually got around 7000 from a rear. sometimes 8000.
the front lasted double that but always wore quicker down the sides than in the middle which resulted in err, interesting handling.

I found Michelin Macadam 100X radials last much longer. They are the only radials in the correct sizes for the GPZ as well.

Hi

To be honest I would doubt you will get anything like 15k from a pair, probably 10k would be a struggle. Charlotte has them on her GPZ500 and it is well onto its 3rd having done about 20k since she bought it.

All the best

Keith

I replaced the tyres at 12000miles, I assume they were the origionals, so that's not too bad.

however they were old BT45's and these are the newer Dual compound ones.

We'll see.

cheers for all the replies.

They must really have changed the compound on them. Only time I've ever had a BT45 fitted it felt like some bastard had greased my rear wheel at the first sign of rain (tuned GPz750). After a little under 2000 miles I replaced the thing and swore never again Shocked

On a side note, the D207RR on the ZZR seem to be lasting forever. Rather impressed with them overall.

the rear wheel does spin up easily in the wet, but it grips quiet well if you're steady with the throttle,

i'm on 7000 miles and still plenty of life on the tyres

And i've only ever had one "moment" with the BT45's, slipping the front on some dirt or something, that was SCARY.

Apart from that come rain or even snow that i rode in a few months ago they were fine, could not fault them at all. Will buy another when the rear wears down

I think it all really depends on the bike, the geometry, weight distribution etc etc.

I ran 010s on my 'Blades and got a fairly consistent 8K to a rear tyre. On my GSXR750 it came with spanking new 207's which gave me about 8K, I then got the last available 010s and they've only managed about 5K..
