Does someone know why my 525 ktm is burning a lot of oil?, it is a 2004 model, barely used, I race it hard, and in the last race, it smoked big time!!, It burned a lot of oil, and after I disasembled it, everything looked normal, the piston, piston rings, cylinder, valves, look normal.

How much is a lot? I take it you are racing the bike, this will cause a lot of wear.

The rings may look normal but are they within tolerances? Could simply be worn out.

I don't know about your type of racing but my mate who races an Aermacchi 350 single in the classic racing has to put new rings in every third race meeting.

Put it this way, if the oil is coming out in the form of smoke, it is getting into the barrel. It therefore has to be coming either past a gasket, past the rings or past a valve-stem oil seal.

i think the lower rings (the one which avoid oil coming in the head) are worn .

Thank you very much for the advise, It definitely burns a lot of oil, 1 liter every 30 km.
I do Enduro racing in Mexico, I think I will change both rings, and the four valve seals.

That amount of oil burning looks like a serious problem.

Does it even have oil control/scraper rings fitted?
