This is THE most no brained question, but, I need oil for a 4 stroke. Having only ridden a 2 stroke, I am clueless! what 4t do I put in, are there grades/thickness/what?. 100cc is my engine size.

same as you i have not a great amount of expericne with 4t's but i know you dont fill it up with oil like u do with a 2t. The Crank is surrounded by oil so it kinda keeps itself cool if you get what i mean. Fill it up with petrol and ur off.

duno if this helped Thumbs Up

I definitley do, I drained the old oil, all of it. As the bike had been sat for months.

Follow the bike hand book for grade, usually 10w 40 is the most common, but older engines need slightly thicker oil when they start getting noisy.

Another thing is to use a dedicated bike oil, not a car one. Car oil is designed to be slippy, wheer bike oil is different so that the clutch will still work properly.

Personally, I use any old shite and never had any problems, but don't make a habit of recommending it!

Don't you have a Lead? If you do then the auto clutch is external, therefore bike or car oil can be used. Bike stuff can be a bit dearer as it is in a different bottle., Rolling Eyes so car stuff may be a better bet.

10w 40 is quite thin,

15w 40 is a bit thicker

20w 50 is quite thick and good for older motors.

Good luck, hope this helps. Thumbs Up

Double post, oops!

You said you have left it without oil for a while? This isn't normally good, it can lead to corrosion setting in on the engine internals. Get some oil in sharpish, and ride it gently for a while. Wink

You didn't tell us what bike it is, but it will almost certainly be fine with 10w40. There is a big difference in price between different brands of oils, a decent quality semi-synthetic bike oil will cost about £25 for 5litres. An okayish mineral oil will be about half that price. There is mixed opinion on how much difference there actually is, so it's up to you to decide what you want to stick in there. On a 100c scooter I would go for the cheap stuff to be honest.

I am now running my bikes on cheapo mineral 15w40 which cost me £27 for a large 25litre drum from my local auto factors. Change it every 1000 miles and you can't really go wrong at that price.
