After a long time standing a change of spark and a good thrashing had my nsr125 running perfectly. Before it would just cut out when idling, it had to be revved to stay running.

I had it out for 2 hours yesterday and it was runnin perfect. I switched it off went inside , and after 2 hours of horrible rain came back out and tryed to start it. The starter motor kicked in and it fired up but just dies off straight away. Every time i start it ,the same thing happens it dies off when giving it throttle. It sounds like its not getting air. It wont fire up at all with the choke on and as this reduces air flow i can only imagine this problem is due to lack of air. Is there any way the water could have gotten into the air filter/oil/petrol tank/cylinder - all sealed?

Fuel line is on
kill switch off
has oil
has fuel
new spark

Thanks a million for any help

May be worth checking that the HT cap and lead did not get wet during the rain. Take them off and dry/clean them and try again. Failing that try taking the air box lid off and the filter out and then try starting, that will rule out lack of air problem.

i suggest :
- clean tank (throw petrol which have more than 1 month) especially the tap
- clean air box foam filter as shown in the manual
- clean carburettor especially the strainer filter **
refit everything , then turn 1/2 round the idle screw on the carb , set the pilot screw at 2 1/2 round out
start on choke without any acceleration and let it running until you feel the engine stuffing then apply a slight acceleration and take choke off and stay like this until the needle temperature begins to exit the blue zone . release acceleration and with the idle screw set it at 1500 RPM , it will be ok
** jetting is certainly not ok . look size of main, slow & power and :
- if your bike is restricted mount 135,42,60
- if de-restricted 138,42,65
all avaiable at https://www.dellorto.co.uk (£10ish for 3)

if you do not want to start , do what is recommanded above , that's the best way to flood a plug and de-lubricate your rings !

dampness caused the fault as if it was dirty petrol it doesnt self clean, change your spark plug cap for a new one
