I'm thinking about ditching my current O2 contract and moving onto Orange. I've had my eye on the Orange SPV for a while now, and I'm mainly attracted to the email and internet features, but I'm not really bothered about all of the other spangly bits.

Does anyone have any experience of the phone?

Also, I'm not too hot on telecommunications technologies, so can anyone explain (preferably through personal experience) how stuff like GPRS affects the phone's operation and also your bill at the end of each month?

Chars.

The SPV uses a Microsoft Operating system and Pocket Outlook.

GPRS is quite easy to use and is quite a bit faster than WAP, you will need GPRS enabled otherwise the phone's not worth using. It can be quite expensive though, but I suppose it depends on what you're used to paying per month. Orange GPRS Prices are on the link below.

They used to offer a pack for £6 a month on top of your talk plan but it finished in April.

Might be worth asking if there is another offer.

orange is about 10X better than o2 at least. i wish i was still on orange!. As for the spv my step dad had/has it. he found it a little too bulky for his liking although he was very impressed by its features. Go get one

It's £2 extra for 1mb of data transfer (GPRS) each month, how far does a meg you?

I did notice that the phone wasn't quite as slimline as others on the market, but it's about the same dimensions as my current Sony J7, so it's not too bad.

Should I cancel my current contract first? Or just pop into an Orange store and hope that they'll sort everything out for me? I would also like to keep my current number...

Ello matey.. Ive got a 7650 on orange.. its great to use but they are just about to release the 3650.. if you don't mind the size of it, it's better than the spv - i run irc software and full web browsing software on the 7650... GPRS is good cos you only pay for what you use - it is still a bit pricy at the mo..

Anyway, if you have any specific question send me a pm! Laughing

Hmm...whereas the SPV is a bit of a brick, the 7650 is a breezeblock! Thanks anyway Rob, I'll be sure to give you a shout if I have any requests Wink

I'm gonna get the new Sony P802. I'm not bothered about the size as it's stuffed in a pocket most of the time, I'm after the features Very Happy

You know what I mean Razz
The games, MP3, touch-screen, e-mail etc.
I don't mind how big it is when I'm using the features of it. I don't like tiny phones either
