Hornet engine sounds different

Hi all

Ive recently bought a 2003 Honda Hornet. Alls been going well and the bike starts 1st time everytime. However while out tonight i kept thinking to myself the engine sounds different, so much so that I pulled over and took my lid of to hear better.

Im not mechanically minded at all and this is the first bike ive owned so i'll do my best to describe the sound. Its a very faint rattle, a tinny sound that can be heard at the same speed of the engine while its idling. I've checked the oil and its at the maximum level.

Im not a fast rider (just passed test), so i dont think I would be pushing the engine much, although I do have a tendency to rev the shit out of it every now and again Smile

This sound could be there since I have had the bike and ive not noticed it, bugging me now though Sad

Any suggestions?

I'm no pro either (far from it), but maybe a rattly cam chain/tensioner?

Could well be the cam chain tensioner. If it is wouldnt worry about it unless its very loud etc.

What exactly is it? Expensive to replace or fix?

Pull the clutch lever in does it disappear? My CBR was the same it's the clutch basket and is considered was considered a "normal " noise and the hornet uses the same if de-tuned lump . Thumbs Up

It's only a 15 minute job on a Hornet, the CCT is on the right side of the rear of the engine, dead easy to get at.
