Anyone here in the Police, or have experience on the Application form part of recruitment?

I need a bit of help on the following compentency questions:

1. Try to recall an occasion when you have challenged someone's behaviour that was bullying, discriminatory or insensitive. Do not use an example where the other person was simply angry or upset. Thier behaviour must have been bullying, discriminatory or insensitive. You will be assesed in this question on how positively you acted, and on how well you understood what had happened.
1a. Tell us about the sitiuation and about the other person or people involved.
1b. What did you say, and what did you do?
1c. Why do you think the other person behaved as they did?
1d. What would have been the consequences if you had not acted as you did?

2. Think of an occasion where is was necassary to work with others to get something done and where you played your part in getting a result. You will be assesed in this question on how positively you acted, and on how well you co-operated with others in completing the task in hand.

3. Recall an occasion when you have been in a very challenging or difficult situation and had to make a decision that perhaps others disagreed with. You will be assesed in this question on how positively you reacted in the face of diffuculty and challenge.

4. Try to remember an occasion when you ahve had to tell a person or a group something that they might have found upsetting or difficult to hear or read. You are being assesed in this question on how you deliver your message and the things you took into account when deciding how to do this.

There are a few other questions that I am having difficulty with but will get to those later. If anyone is able to help me a bit, maybe just a suggestion or two on how to tackle these questions, i'd be very grateful. Im having trouble finding examples of most of that stuff, being only 21 and having hardly any life experience its kinda hard.

Many Thanks,

I don't see how people can really help you, the questions are specific to your experience. The questions are in that format for a reason. If you cannot answer them or give good examples then you will not get past the paper sift stage.

The best way to gain this experience is to delay your application and apply for the Specials instead for a year or two.

Good luck!

If you don't know the answer then you don't have the qualifications for the job.

I disagree.
I have a mate who joined the police a few years ago and he had help and was coached by someone already in the police to answer in the right kind of way.

A lot of jobs are like this, you need to know what they want, and the right way to give them what they want. Having someone who knows the ropes will help.

When I was at british gas, the only people who made team leader were people who had been coached in this way by family or friends.

6. Does wearing a uniform give you a sense of power over non-uniform wearers?

7. Are the masons a cool bunch of people?
