when your riding in rain, do you tilt your heads to the side a little bit so the wind blows the rain off the visor, or do u wipe it with ur hand/glove? Reason i ask is because i was out today when it fucking pissed down, and everytime i wiped my visor it was covered again, so i kinda did a mix of moving my head to the side and wiping it.

Wipe it my glove.

Rain is one of the few occasions where there is a real advantage to having a fairing. Even with just a little flyscreen, you can tuck down low over the tank and your visor won't get covered in water Thumbs Up

Most of the time I wipe my visor, have turned my head slightly but never got enough speed for the rain to leave my visor Razz

If your bike has a fairing try ducking down to screen level. The vacuum created there from the air curling over it will suck the rain downwards and off your visor. It also means you can keep your eyes on the road ahead Thumbs Up

Would that not just smear it?

I find that unless it's really heavy rain it's easier to just leave it, wiping it tends to make it smear at least a little bit which slightly blurs my vision until it just ends up (in about 20seconds) back how it was before anyway!

I tried wiping it with my glove, but I just got a lovely oily smear as my gloves are dirty from checking chain tension and messing with the filthy topbox before setting off. Tried turning my head, but the aforementioned oily scum holds the water firmly in place.

The next best bet is to open the visor slightly so I can see a bit underneath it without getting my eyeballs pelted with rain. The result is often riding in a state of near blindness and irritating discomfort.

Only plus side is that I can have another 5 minutes in bed as it saves having a wash before setting off for work. Wink

Every cloud and all that....

Its not a good idea to wipe a visor with your gloves, as previously mentioned, your gloves are covered in oil, not just from the chain but also the natural oils in the leather, they might also have grit etc on them causing scratches on the visor.
Before every trip, wash the visor with warm soapy water, dry it with a soft cloth or paper towel and then polish the outside of it with a good household polish, I use Mr Sheen, the rain just runs off it then, or you can just shake your head and it clears, don't ever wipe with anything other than soft clean material it cos that spoils the effect. I've been using this method for years and not found anything better yet.

I tend to open my visor a little , and then tilt my head forward and peer through the gap between visor and helmet.

My left glove has part of a windscreen wiper attatched to the thumb, so i use that to clear my visor in the rain Cool

I tend to just leave my visor alone and concentrate on looking through it. But the rain does tend to bead up and run off.

TBH i tend to just leave the visor open its fecking useless.. (at night) in the day i can leave it halfway down, if it gets a bit too bad i lift my head slightly to see under it..

Farings defenately do make quite a difference though, was out rideing through heavy rain and a mate on his nekid bike got completely drenched, i was more or less totaly dry Laughing

I just tilt my head to one side once in a while and let it bead off. Ever since I got my helmet 18 months ago I have always cleaned it with 'Shift-it' helmet cleaner. It certainly does the trick of helping to bead the water off.

Worked a treat today, 2x 1hour rides in the pissing rain, and didn't touch my visor once Thumbs Up

Laughing Wicked!

Myself, my visor is in dire need of replacement anyway, so I just put up with it and look through the little gap, as I always ride with it a little up. Until 3 figure speeds don't give me an option. Confused

I haven't ridden in torrential conditions yet anyway. I took the car to college earlier Embarassed - in my defence, I had the laptop with me. Razz

gloves are not waterproof so no touchy the water

On my old gloves i used to use a Bob Heath v wipe..excellent bit of kit....needs a couple of blobs of superglue to help it stay on on Nsl's.....lost a few due to not picking that tip up earlier...wipes all road crud off as well..handy things.

My new gloves have a rubber wipe built in to the thumb, which is even better as you cant lose them Wink

I also found that a bare glove just smears the crap...v wipe or gloves with wipes built in peform 10 times better.

Also..polishing the outside of your visor with Mr Sheen helps the rain bead off better.......and smell nice Wink

Same here although even riding everyday I find once a week is normally enough, no need for all this wiping and messing around taking your eyes off the road, the water just beads and blows to the sides.

I have a Bob Heath Vee Wipe permanently superglued to my left index finger. I rate it as the single most useful piece of kit I've ever bought. Cost about 4 quid. Tilting your head does not work well at slow speeds, light rain or very heavy rain, and is absolutely useless in snow and hailstorms only the vee wipe copes in such conditions;

How the feck do you get hail stuck to your visor? Laughing

I use a mixture of wiping and head turning, depending on the speed I'm doing, but usually give up with both after a while and just look through the water and ignore it. Eventually you don't notice it.
