yeah i know they are supposed to smoke a little but what makes exesive smoke? my freinds tzr 125 is smoking like a bitch and a mechanic said (without looking) the oil pump needs ajusting. it started to smoke after a 25 odd mile trip and was fine before so i thought what he said was crap, but hes the mechanic not me. so any ideas?

The more oil, the more smoke. Thus the mechanics suggestion.

Of course I've had headgaskets go before and the water and oil getting pulled in to the barrel produced lots of smoke. Laughing

it was just as it happened suddenly i thought it could be something else like oil seals because the smoke seems to come out white...and well i dont actually know what his oil pump looks like but on mine theres no way it can ajust itself because theirs a little clip to stop it

Knackered crank seals make them smoke. Check the gearbox oil level to see if it drops.

Normal smoke is blue. white smoke = something is fucked, especially if it was sudden. Tell him not to ride it until it's fixed or it might seize.

most of smoke come from : clogged exhaust , not fully synthetic oil , bad oil pump adjustment .

White smoke is caused by water getting into the combustoin chamber, it isn't smoke but water vapour, if that is the case then it could be the head gasket blown. But I don't think would lead to poor oil consumtion, best bet is to take it to a dealer to get sorted.
All the best Gerry

My planet smokes badly until warmed up, once up to working temperature i'd be lucky to see a wisp.

I assume it is condensation related, and would probably benefit from an exhaust decoke.

He did give it time to settle didn't he. When the bikes cold etc get him to check the sight glass just in case.

My NSR injects extra oil on initial startup for about a minute.

Oh yes it does, it has a solenoid on it to let more oil through as well as its normal machanical action.
