water coming out of a hole in the frame!

hi i have a 1994 yamaha dtr 125 and whilst ive had it ,it has had about 6 head gaskets and has been skimmed a couple of times as well and now it has just started doing this weird thing when you rev the bike water comes out of a hole in the frame near the expansion tank could someone explain what could be causing this and is there even ment to be a small hole there? cheers

I presume it is just water and not coolant? (to find out, dip your finger in and taste some, coolant tastes sweet).

I don't know exactly, but on the assumption that it is plain water, none of your bikes systems have plain water in them. This means it is rain water/road spray and they probably put a wee hole in there to allow it to drain out. There is such a hole on the underside of my swingarm for this exact purpose.

If it is coolant, I dunno.

Disclaimer: Taste fluids emenating from your bike at your own risk. I once tasted a clear fluid which was dripping from the underside of my bike to find it was battery acid. It is a good way of telling though.

yeah i did that sorry i forgot to put it in it is coolant that it is spraying out not water

I had a vf400 and that used one of the frame tubes as a coolant pipe, is this the case on the dtr? if so i think you've sprung a leak and this would explain the gasket failures.

the pipe from the radiator is attached to the expansion tank its just on the frame near the expansion tank there is a small hole which it splurts out of

If the ends are open why would it need drain holes? The reason for small holes in hollow structures is because you can't weld them closed. On bike frames etc it's to let the air escape when it's heated by welding. If there isn't a hole the last little bit of welding gets blown out & ends up looking like crap.
Not sure about other bikes, but on Kaw's the holes are 3mm......

The holes are usually on the bottom so that you can't see them.. & so water won't find it's way in there by gravity....

Well rusty water comes out of them so to me they are drain holes. The open ends are not the lowest point, the holes are.

If the holes weren't there, you could land up with 1/4" of water sloshing about in them.

In that case I'd enlarge em to about 1/4in & spray something like Waxoyl in there to stop the corrosion....after you've baked it in a oven to dry it out first of course
