I didn't think this could be done. Though how would that work with me, 3 years NCB but one of those was picked up when I was 16. Would I only be able to transfer the two? ____________________ Northern Irish? www.nibikers.com |

As just said, you can't use them on your bike. You can't split them. I had 5 yrs from 16-21 on a 50+125.
They didn't care what it was from, it was just "NCB". As long as my bike company was happy to release them i was able to transfer them to the car policy.
Took my car policy down from £800/900 with 0NCB to £250 with 5NCB.
Pushed the bike up from £90 with 5NCB to £<200 with 1NCB.
Not a mistake, but i did gain an extra years ncb by doing this. When i took out my car policy i asked (and recorded so i had proof they made the mistake) if i could split my bike ncb's to give me the most favourable amount of ncbs on each policy. They said yes.
A month after the policy started they wrote to me saying my policy is void as my ncbs are still being used for my bike. I argued that one was, but four were on the car. They informed me this isn't allowed as in theory you'd be able to insure 5 separate cars and bulk together all the ncbs to get 5yrs ncb after one year.
Told them that they'd agreed to take four of my five. They said they hadn't. I said they had. Back and forth until i mentioned that the conversation was recorded at my end. They phoned me the next day and they agreed that they made an error and to save me cancelling the policy they'd give me and "free years ncb" to "prevent me accumulating a extra years ncb on a split policy" (but didn't you just do that by giving me one? )
I digress.....
If it works out cheaper to keep some ncb's on your bike, try it, act dumb, BUT keep proof that they agreed. Most mobiles record phones, just ask the operator at the start of the call if you can for your own records.

You can have 5 years from just a cbt, you still shown that you're less of a risk than a newbie.
Check out how much discount one year gives you for a car, when compared to the increase on your bike. The fact that it's a new (to you) car and a familiar bike will weight the car policy. |
I don't have a bike, my R6 was stolen a few days ago, buying a car instead. I had 2 policies going at one point, the one with the R6 i'm claiming on, but I have another policy with 1 years NCB that isn't being used, so want to put it to good use. |

this is quite an interesting thread
I know its mainly about motorcycle to car NCB.
But I have 2 years no claims on my car, anyone know who would accept that on a bike? |

Everyone listen to me
This is a REALLY good trick for if you are young and have a few years bike no claims bonus, but want a car aswell. You can mirror the no claims bonus so u can get the ncb on both car and bike policy.
Im 19 and have 2 years bike no claims, at renewal i ask them to lapse the policy, which then gives me a paper from the insurers showing 2 years ncb. I give that to the car company that accept M/C ncb. Next you phone up your bike insurers and say you have changed your mind and want to continue the bike policy.
You now have a car policy with 2 years NCB (even though i had never driven a car previously) and your bike with 2 years ncb
