well had my bike on the stand today, went inside and out of the window i could see a gray thing on my tyre... so i ran out hoping it was just a stone..

well it was a nail, and i only had my tyre like 1000 miles... so any way popped down to the bike shop and they gave me this stuff (slime)...

so i put that in my tyre and it works no air coming out and feels fine.
any one else useds this and did it work for you.. Mr. Green Question Question

Isn't that supposed to be a temporary fix?

The good thing about slime is it's meant to stop a puncture as it happens - put it in your tyre before you ride over a nail.

If there's a nail actually stuck in a tyre and no leak around it, I think I'd rather take the bike to a garage and get it plugged instead.

The tyre's probably going to outlast the current head gasket anyway.

Whereabouts was the puncture? I'm assuming you have tubeless tyres, in which case, as long as it wasn't near the edge or side wall, it would have been better to plug it.

JESUS CHRIST! WHAT FUCKING COWBOY DID THAT!? Utter idiots! the slime is a temporary fix that you put in your tyre when you get a new one. the when you get a puncture, it seals the puncture as it happens, and it's ok to ride like that for about 50 miles or so. The sealing power of the slime lasts for as long as the tyre. The sealed puncture doesn't.

Whichever fuckwit put that in your tyre and said it was OK needs sacking, and tying up in a rough woven sack whilst bare arsed naked with a beehive in there for good measure. Then we'll treat him like a pinyata.

Jack, no it's not Wink

My old man works in a car dealership and they sell barells of it, it's really good shit. I put it in my tyres as soon as they're fitted, and I've never once had a puncture. I've had nails in my tyres, pulled em out, and the next day it's dropped 1 or 2 PSI, and you can see the dried slime around the hole. Top the pressure back up and forget it ever happened Wink

There is cheap stuff, which is temporary, but the £30/£40 stuff is quality, I swear by it Thumbs Up

(And no, it doesn't make the tyre hard to change either, before someone says it - my stuff stays liquid until theres a puncture or something, where it dries around the hole Razz )

That slime is dodgy shit, it might stop air escaping but it won't stop the wire carcass from rusting from any moisture that managed to get into the tyre, blowout anyone?

It's a get you home fix, not a permenant bodge.

I'd recommend that you don't wait around next time you're having that tire changed, the bloke will be somewhat upset when he gets covered in it removing the tire from the rim.. Rolling Eyes

Fixed it. Thumbs Up

Its an accident waiting to happen!!!! Yes it fixes small punctures but you will never know how many punctures your tyre has. Makes more work as you need to check your tyre pressures every day(you should anyway), and it can throw the wheel out of balance. Oh and the one time I used it as a emergency get home measure, the tyre fitters charged me £20 extra to get the shit from off my wheel. It makes a new tyre a messy job!

I would have plugged it, less mass and MUCH safer.

Got a big bottle of this a long time ago and keep it on the bike for emergencys.. there are kits that have tyre plugs and CO2 cylinders thinking of gtting one of them at some pointm a more perminent less messy fix..

But between annoying the tyre fitter and haveing to sit in the middle of nowhere for an indefenate ammount of time i'll take the snot for now Wink...

Nah.

Had this stuff suggested to me by my local dealer about a month ago, said it would last my until monday when i could get a new tyre fitted. This was on a saturday afternoon.

Push bike tyres - yeah the stuff is a god send.

Bike? Nahah. Ignore the folks here telling you its fine blah blah blah, its bollocks.

Great stuff when theres nothing else available - but not instead of a new tyre / plugging. The stuff i was told about in depth was about £30 ~. Was told that its great up to about 40mph, and no use at all with pillions etc.

Maybe avoid that dealer if you can next time Wink

It’s the kind of stuff nightmares blow outs are made off.

For a start it will be made with cars predominately in mind and I don’t need to tell you hoe much extra work a bike tire has to do over that of your average car.

As something to get you home it’s brilliant but as a permanent fixes for a bike that could be capable of 0-60 in less than 4 sec with a top end over 160mph you would be mad to trust any thing but a professional fix’s (plugs).

Can't remember the brand name, but used to use some green goop in the XJ900 tyres. Saved my arse more than once, getting a nail in the tyre 300-400 miles from home is not fun at 9 at night. As far as the tyre changes go, it's not a huge problem. Take five minutes to depressurise your tyre before it goes on the bead breaker. Never had any hassle from the blokes I used for changes /shrug.

Wouldn't choose to use it in a "performance" bike, or one I intended to be thrashing hard, but for a work horse I really don't see a problem.

Calm down Sir, please put down the preconception and step away from the soapbox.

I've used Ultraseal in the exact same situation, and it was absolutely fine. This was on a GSX-R600, tested by me to well over 140, and I even had the tyre balance checked by a tuning specialist who said it was perfect.

From what I have heard ultraseal is the best off this kind of stuff, slime stuff is not very friendly on the paint on your wheels.

I wont use it,

it removes the coating from the inside of alloy wheels and will cause them to slowly deflate eventually.

Seen it on the FJ1200 after i changed tyres, the wheels were badly corroded on the inside, the mechanic cussing the stuff.

I suggest you get to the slime website. There was a disclaimer on more than a few of the sealant products which stated it was a temporary repair only. I like to think of it as blood, then when your tyre bursts you get a clot, like you would get a scab. You wouldn't want a permanent scab would you?

Alloy is porous and without an air tight coating tyres would deflate slowly or fast depending on the quality of the Alloy.
