I will post on the FZR archives tomorrow but hope a few people here may be able to help me (kickstart as usual Laughing )

Basically i would like to know what the standard sprocket sizes are (front and rear) and the standard chain size. I know its 520 but not sure on how many links. I have a 44t 520 rear sprocket, not sure on the front but i want to buy a chain and there is 520 525 530 etc and im not sure what it means.

Also does anyone have a 1wg wiring diagram? I have a 3tj and its slightly different. Confused

Thanks. Thumbs Up

Hi

Not sure on the sprocket sizes / chain lengths. I would just cheat and buy a kit!

The 520 / 525 / 530 bit is the size of the chain. They all have a 5/8" pitch (ie, distance from the centre of one pin to the next). Difference is the width of the roller / sprockets.

520 is lighter and will not last as long, but not really an issue for track use. In a suitable grade should easily be strong enough.

All the best

Keith

OK thanks kickstart.

I have heard of people using a 525 chain on standard sprockets. Confused

104 links in chain (99% sure Laughing )

not sure on the pitch n stuff, but you can pick up a DID chain and decent sprockets for about £80

Hi

Given how cheap a sprocket or 2 is compared to a decent heavy duty chain (basically 3/4 of the cost of a chain and sprocket kit with a 530 hd O ring chain will be the cost of the chain) I would say to buy a kit. No point wrecking an expensive chain to save a few quid on old sprockets.

All the best

Do you know where i can get the sprockets from??

I have been shown this link by a friend.

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8058037619&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I could get it shortened by the garage down the road. As im not going to use the bike that much, probably a couple of times a year hopefully that should do the job.

Hi

No idea how good that chain is. Not heard of the make.

However a 520 chain is generally used on small bikesto medium sized bikes (RS125 uses one). Good quality one will certainly be strong enough (think Gs R6 was running on a 520 chain), but if it is too weak and snaps then there is a fair chance it will take the engine out.

I tend to buy C&S kits from Trade Direct.

All the best

Hi

Bit of searching round.

THC Chain Specs

DID chain Specs

As you can see the claimed tensile strength of the strongest THC heavy duty 520 chain is about the same as the weakest DID 520 chains.

All the best
