i tried out 20 bikes, and the 98 r1 is the best bike i have ever ridden, so im sure the 99 is even better

I was a bit intimidated by it before I got on, but it is probably one of the easiest bikes to ride I have tried as well. The slightest touch on the throttle alters your speed as required. You dont really need to be in the right gear, or at the right revs. It handles really well too.

you are gonna love it

pls leave it standard tho, i hate tarty mirrors, indicators, undertrays etc

you are permitted to get a yoshi can tho Smile

i guess you could justify a steering damper, but I think it would spoil the low speed handling

the thing that surprised me most about the r1 was how agile it was and quick at turning. I knew it would be powerful and i knew it was more agile than other litre bikes of its day, but i didnt realise how agile it was.

im not talking lock to lock for u turns

i made the guy take off the steering damper so i dont know what its like with one on, but i think it wdnt turn in as quick

Depends how well you look after your bike. I kept mine mint so a couple of mins on the wheels after a ride wasn't a prob to me.

You prepared to rejet it as well? Any really reason why you'd want a full system instead of just an end can?

Any chance of listing stuff that has already been done to it?

Personally, I would upgrade the brakes first - some braided lines at least. I found some nice wavy discs and Carbone Lorraines for mine (and calipers from a 2002-on R1), but it still feel didn't as strong as my previous (new) CBR.

Steering damper? I didn't really need one 'cos I rode mine like a granny, but if you're a nutter, then it could be a good investment.

In terms of what needs to be known - the 4XV model (1998-1999 original, and best, model) has the subframe welded onto the main frame, so if the subframe has been bent in anyway, then the whole frame is technically bent, so be aware.
First to second might take a bit of "commitment" (a "characteristic" Wink) otherwise you'd find yourself grabbing a handful of false neutral.
It has a good size boot for your toolkit etc, which makes a change from the more modern sports bikes.
There's probably more stuff, but that'll be the fun of owning it Razz
