Trying to tell my younger brother that jumping from a little 125 to a VTR1000 is too big too soon.
His only been riding the 125 around for about 3 months and has just passed his DAS course.
Even i have gone from a 125, 600 and now a 900 and still prefer the NSR as it's a bike that you have to work to get anywhere. Smile
Do you agree or am i just being paranoid. Smile
All the best to him if he can handle it.
Has anyone else made such a big jump?

Wingchunal went from an NSR to a Firestorm (I assume that it's a Storm? or did you mean an SP1/2?), and they're like bike 2-strokes anyway Razz

Seriously though, any of the newer sports 600s would be just as fast as a Firestorm, so I don't think that the jump is *that* great in reality.

Wingchunal went from an NSR to a 'storm. He has been fine, but has been riding for more than 3 months ( I think!)

The storm isnt a 1000 like a inline 4, as it won't bite so much. It's insurance is a lower class than my ZX6R Confused . It does still go, and go fast, good for 160, and 3 seconds 0-60 times

How does your brother ride? He will be alright as long as he knows what he is getting onto, and rides accordingly

If he's done DAS then anything's fair game. Wouldn't personally see a problem with the VTR, its not a 'nasty' bike so should be forgiving enough.

To be honest his not a bad rider got use to the bigger bike (my cbr when i had it) quite quickly.
Was more worried about his observation more than anything else or lack off but he passed his DAS ok.
His looking around for a VTR, don't know much about them to be honest.
Are they a good machine to ride orr would you recommend the Storm?

So you *did* mean an SP1/2 then? In that case, I'd personally advise against it, especially since it's practically a race bike...I doubt that he'd even get reasonable insurance cover for it Confused

SP1/2 after DAS and only 3 months on the road on a bike is just asking for trouble.

A big V twin can bite... while you can get away with turning the throttle low down in the the rev range on a 600, a twitch and your on your arse/in the air thanks to the broad range of tourque.

Yeah, but if he gets a Firestorm, he'll run out of fuel before he can get himself into trouble Razz

how old is he, i would advise against an SP1 and Storm, they are very tourqey, a sports 600 like G said would be better.

Me agreeing with G twice in one nite this is getting strange Very Happy

I'd advise against going from a 125 two stroke to a big V twin. He'd have to get used to the bollock-bruising engine braking, and if you get ham fisted with the throttle on these things in a corner you're going to get chucked straight into the nearest ditch.

A 400/600 inline four would be a better idea, or if he's got his heart set on a twin then the SV650 might be worth a look.
