im definatly getting myself a new 125 this month as i passed my test today(WHOOOO) and can finally sell my Gilera DNA 50
Choices i had in mind

Honda XR125
NSR125
Varedero125
Aprillia RS125
Cagiva Mito 125

Ive got about 4k saved up i know a new bike is gonna cost at least 3k excluding the XR 125 . The 4K would also have to go towards some of the insurance.

But serisouly what would be the best option???

are you sure you really want to get a brand new one? you'll lose hell of a lot when you come to resell it and a lot of riders drop their first bike which could be expensive.

You can get a decent second hand nsr for a lot less than 3k and a few are for sale on here.

As for what bike the Mito does look shit hot and is faster than the honda (just) but i still think the honda is an all round better ride.

What do you want to do with it?
Whatever IMHO the Varedero isn't a good option.
As a road bike any of the 2strokes should be okay, do a search to find threads where the same question has been asked Smile

just out of curiosity have you even rode a Varadero? AND rode one like it's designed to be...a Comfy Cruiser? or whatever?

Nope, and tbf most people have had them have defended them.

But I have rode a variety of bikes with some specs similar, one way or another. Personally I don't see that the stats in anyway add up to a good bike... in some situations it does happen, but 'most everything I've heard from people that have ridden other bikes have slated it.

Someone looking at the list of bikes he was looking at it unlikley to want a 'comfy cruiser'. For use on most british roads it would be under powered IMO.

As G said, it depends largely on what you mainly intend to use the bike for?

As you're interested in the XR125, why not look at a CRM250 or even an XR250? You can get very mint ones for under £3k, and they're not that much over the 33bhp limit.

Oh, and congrats on passing your test mate Smile

Is that brandspanking new feeling worth £500 - £1000, more if you crash it?
MUch as it's nice, there's lots of other things that you can do with £1000 that are also nice Smile

You mean the "oh yay, I'm restricted to 40mph for 500 miles because I have to run it in" feeling?
It's not just about spending more on the initial outlay, but as you've already found out, you'll lose a heck of a lot when you come to sell it (although I'm sure that the XR and Varadero would hold their values better).

I see what you mean but most of the bikes on the bike trader website (NSR's) are between 2750 and 2995 second hand with a at least 1000 miles minimum already on them i might as well pay the extra few hundred and get a new one and with summer coming soon i should be able to get a chep new one cause of the registration coming in september.

Are there still gonna be new-reg NSRs on September? I thought that they were fazing them out?

Anyhoo, I for one fell into that "gotta buy new" category when I got my NSR, and I fully understand the temptation. What I don't understand is - you've got your licence, you don't want to buy a second hand bike that has probably been thrashed by learners, but you still want to buy a 125?
I'm not trying to tell you to get a 600cc rocket, but since you mentioned a couple of crossers/trailies in your list, why not look at bigger alternatives? Something like an XR/CRM250, or DR(Z)350 would probably be easier to ride about, and you can get well cared for machines at reasonable prices.

Thats why most people get a bigger bike, 400 / 600 and restrict it....
And then those restrictors fall out on the erm... bumpy roads of the UK.

Something like an XR/CRM250 only produces around 38-40BHP anyway, which means that restricting them won't make much of a difference, and they'll still have plenty of stomp 'cos they're singles Smile
