Bike was nicked from outside my house, under, right under my bedroom window.

The police, due to their local knowledge, thankfully found it

It's in one piece, been hotwired, few scuffs. Been dropped on both sides, bent brake lever, steering lock broken, but over all, I think I've been very lucky. It had only done 12-15 miles.

Well done Thames Valley Police, big props, proper community police work payed off in this instance.

The bike is now chained to my car through the tow-hoop and the car parked in a way that restricts any movement of the bike. The car is also locked up ands secured.

The one time I didn't lock it up and it wasn't there in the morning... Lesson learned, I hope someone else can also learn from my mistake. Don't be a lazy fucker, you risk losing your bike to some undeserving, horrible fuckwits.

Was it 3rd party only then?? If so then I'm glad you got it back.

If someone stole my bike, I'd want them to keep it, theres a huge chance it'll get thrashed half to death and damaged. If I saw it in a ditch, I'd have very serious thoughts about burning it myself.

It is sad though mate to think that you can’t rest easy around your own community, there is someone watching you, watching your bike, sussing out security. If you forget, or just don’t bother, it’s gone, and to be fair it shouldn’t be like that.

I had a similar thing happen at the beginning of March this year.
Bike was left on the driveway with just the steering lock on, and was taken in a 1h15m window (early evening).

Lots of credit to Avon and Somerset police, who found the bike by 10 o'clock the following morning. It had only made it 200m, but it was left in a very disused back alley, which not many people use.

It had similar damage to yours, they had a go at hotwiring it (after free wheeling it from my driveway to the alley), by ripping off the front headlight and clocks. It was also dropped a couple of times.

The total bill to put the bike back into its original condition (bought brand new in the summer just passed) was £2300. To put things into context here, the cost of the bike was £4000. Insurance wouldn't pay out because it wasn't garaged, so, as a final year student, I had to cough up the money myself. In the end I decided to put right just what needed to get it roadworthy, which was still £800.

I have also learned from this, it has been a valuable lesson that will serve me for the rest of my life. It couldn't possibly happen at a worser time (age 21, ~2 months left of uni), but I'll never make the mistake again.

While they haven't yet caught the buggers (two teenagers as identified by some guy whose house overlooks the alleyway), I can at least live in the knowledge that my quality of life will be a thousand times greater than their's will ever be!

The picture below shows the front extent of the damage. The £2300 bill was obviously assuming it was an insurance claim by the garage. It's hardly worth paying £70 for a new swingarm that had a scratch about half an inch long...

Funny thing is they dropped it at least 2 times in under 15 miles.
I guess thats what happens when they fuck around on a bike and dont care what they do to it.
Its even more of a pisser because they didn't steal it to keep it.
they just grabbed your pride and joy to screw around on for a qucik hours enjoyment. Dirty bastards. Hope their knobs falls off or something.
Maybe they even hurt themselves when the dropped it. Heres hoping anyway .

so as you can see you was lucky with your police/your area but were im from i H8 them ALLLLLL with a passion!

Avon and somerset police were craptacular for me.

Luckily it was dumped behind a bikers house and he looked after it for me. People came to try and re-steal it, he phoned police and they said they were too busy!!

Then I had to pay for the priviledge of it being recovered.
