 |
|
Hi,
Getting bored of writing these threads myself.
Had a little test run tonight.
Got on the A562, nice straight piece of road, slightly down hill, and utterly pinned the throttle.
The most I am getting is 60mph indicated. Which is about 54mph?
I know my bike is slow, but not *that* slow? I would've expected about 68ish true speed downhill?
I was lying totally flat on the tank, practially kissing the clocks, with elbows tucked in as well, still didn't go over 60.
Anyone got an idea of some quick checks I can do to find out where the restriction is coming from? (IE Air filter, Coked exhaust).
Final drive seems ok, its at the correct slack and lubed. |

Hi,
Colin, thanks for the input, however, the problem I'm highlight is that my bike has lost about 10mph off of its top speed, not that the bike is generally too slow.
Thanks
Toby |

It did look funny as fuck I imaigne, I'll admit, but it was at 12.30 in the morning and there were no cars on the road so I thought it's an ideal time to test it.
Erm... I think I've seen over 70 out of it before, but it was such a long time ago.
Valve clearances and Cleaning the carb spring to mind, but these jobs scare me. |

actually I was talkingabout something similar with some guys
they said diesels give more HP the more miles you put on them up to a point , while petrol engines lose a few HP every few 1000 miles , why is this? , crap in the cylinders which'd be semi fixed by using optimax? ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. | Quote: | Is the bike heavier? Was it you who ate all the pies then? |
Hmm, I've put on about a stone, think I'm about 12-13 stone and 6'1"
| Quote: | Seriously, with anything bike related, before checking anything mechanical, first check the state of the tyres and the presure. You'd be suprised at the difference it can make. |
Think this popped into my head earlier when I was thinking about it, you mentioned it before in another thread I think.
| Quote: | Maybe check out the carb as possibly a fuel restriction. |
Ah, you might be onto something, read the next point.
| Quote: | What's the state of the plug like? |
White ash deposits (Not much, and the electrode is intact).
| Quote: | Could the brakes be binding? (spin the wheels). |
Nope but as I spin the back wheel it makes a sort of clunking sound that sounds like it's coming from the chain, like a knock knock knock knock knock sound with the background noise of the chain bending.
| Quote: | As you said you could check the air filter but it's so basic on a CG even if the sponge is full of muck I doubt it won't make that much difference. |
Hi, I agree, last time I checked there was a bit of dried "snot" on it, and it smelt of petrol, but I don't think there's a problem with it.
| Quote: | I also doubt you'll have coked up the exhaust as it's a 4-stroke. |
I do give it a big old bastard of a thrasing every so often.
| Quote: | Hope these thoughts help |
Thanks, they do.

Only problem is I know "Men who think they do"
I did take the plug reading after normal riding, about an hour since I got off the bike, would this of affected the reading?
It doesn't look like anything on those pages. |
