Ok long story short: Taxi driver wrote off my bike 18 months ago, his fault. Finally got it settled last week. Insurance company awarded me €10,000. Nice!

But the problem lies here:
Get a brand new factory restricted CBR600FS but have no money left, and possibly be in debt.

Or... get a Bandit 600 factory restricted (unfaired), get a two-piece Aplinestar leather suit and Supertech boots and still have money for a possible holiday.

I love the CBR but the Bandits more practical. Someone make my mind up for me???

IMHO, go second hand, save money, avoid all the hassle of running in etc.

Why not get a 6 month old CBR and with the money you save get all the other bits you want.

Mr.E.

BTW how much have you to spend ? Laughing

If you love it, you'll learn to live with it. The Sport is more practical than you think.

How about the new Hornet 600? Or possibly the Fazer 600 - which should be heavily discounted 'cos they're either pre-registered or need to be sold before the summer.

I'd personally advise you to get a bike that you can afford to ride and enjoy! (So the Bandit in this case)

Got to be the Honda, the Suzi will depreciate lots more and will rust. Good idea about the 6 month old bike, you'll save the 17.5% VAT you'd lose on a new machine.

The bandit may not be that practical....

I mean look at all that shiny silver work and engine that will need to be cleaned, plastics hide a multitude of muck Laughing

I have to buy new cos the factory resticted models are just out and there aint any second hands available.
I was looking at the Fazer aswell but its the old model and looks dated. The Hornet is only available in the faired version and I dont like its looks.,very small fuel tank aswell.

The CBR is bout €11,000(grp 6)and the Bandit is €7,800(grp 5). Thing is if I crash the CBR theres a lot of fairing to be replaced. Also the CBR is much more attractive to thieves. Ill have to cough up another couple of hundred for an alarm.
But just look at that CBR, its gorgeous!!!!
Ahhhh!

Can't you buy one from the UK? Or are they in a higher insurance group?

Its too much hassle getting them from the UK. You'll end up paying the same in the end with taxes and stuff.
These bikes are in grp 5/6 instead of like 10/11 because they are factory restricted and so are harder to derestrict yourself.
I wonder though that it may be a bit stupid paying like 10,000 for a CBR600 thats only got 33bhp.

Can you not buy an old one and restrict it yourself?

Maybe I'm missing something. I do apologise.

Nah, basically the insurance companys will only reduce the insurance group its in if it has been resticted in the bike factory by the bike maker. You get a cert from Honda/suzi etc saying this bike is derestricted. And so you get cheaper insurance.
Thing is they aint actually that hard to derestrict so you can have a 100bhp bike but be paying 33bhp insurance. Razz

Nah, exhaust is stainless steel, and most of the rest of the shiny bits are plastic (airbox covers, clocks, etc)

All the best

How dare they do such cheapness at the end. Still i guess its not much, bit of rubbing down and paint every now and then would see it fine. lol.
