I want to downgear a zzr. The standard gearing seems to be 16 48.
I have found a site that does 13 14 15 16 front and 48 49 50 rear.
I was thinking could i just buy a 13 and 50 (so -3 +2) and not need to change the chain. As the chain is pretty new there is no point getting another on. Or should i just go 3 down on the front.
Im not sure how much difference that would make. I have heard people like to do -1 +3 so how much difference would -3 on the front make?

Im not fussed by the top speed. Lower the better as i wont be as temtped to go as fast, just want some crazy acceleration. |

that should be pretty good but if you do abit of motorway miles then maybe don't go down as much.
with -3 and +2 will be a wheelie machine ____________________ CBR400RR the funs started - Honda MTX 125 ongoing project when i can be arsed |

Hi
That is one hell of a lot of down gearing.
If it would do 150mph before in top, same revs would now give you 117mph. Similarly if you would cruise at 6000rpm, you would now be crusing at 7700rpm, a hell of a difference.
Pretty much destroy fuel economy, and practically make no positive difference outside 1st gear (any other gear you can just change down).
Also likely that it would very noticeably reduce front sprocket and chain life.
All the best

What is a good change then. Ideally i would like to keep the chain. Im not too fussed about fuel consumtion as i will be using it more than my car. (the car uses quite a lot already)
The acceleration already is pretty good just want to more. |

Hi
Only thing it will affect is acceleration in first gear, or when being lazy and not bothering to use the gearbox.
Personally I would go down one at the front and up one at the back. About 8% lower gearing. Knock the top speed down to about 140.
Also note that if you go down too many at the front there is a fair chance the chain will start to chew up the front of the swinging arm (there is a plastic piece to protect it, but it will only last so long).
As to fuel consumption, one tooth down on the front of the Bandit added 10% to the fuel consumption.
All the best

Doesn't really seem worthwhile downgearing actually.
Would 1 down on the front make a massive difference to first gear or only a bit. |

Ok thanks. I will go -1 on the front and see how it is. As long as i can keep the chain the same length i dont mind as i could always put the original one back one. |

yea i downgeared & went for -1 & +2 & it made ALOT of diff only downfall is when you get on to a A or M road & its so high revving it dont sound nice & amount of times i still click thinking theres SURELY another gear to go up but nope! but TIS LOVELY round town! gotta say though it dont "POWER WHEELIE" iv had to dump the clutch abit to get any kind of lift
so any 1 know why it aint power wheeling? like just want it to raise as i apply power
but yea mark maybe try what iv got
iv got -1 front renthal & +2 rear renthal & tsubaki gold chain ____________________ GSXR750

I wont be riding it much, will be basically my weekend toy but i will probably use it more than my car BECAUSE I HATE IT!!!
I don't really mind buying a new rear and front sprocket but dont really wanna buy another chain for it as my dad bought one a while ago which has probably done about 200 miles. |
