Hey All,

Just after some advice and help really, I've been having a nightmare of a time trying to find all my clothing bits. I had trouble finding some boots because I have wide feet, but I've now found some. (Yipee)

My next biggest nightmare is a jacket, I have tried loads on and a fair lot of them don't fit, (around the chest & tummy).
I've tried the biggest womens size that the clothing companies do but they don't fit.
I found an males fitting IXS one (can't remember the name of it - but it was a four xl Shocked ) that fitted, but I can't find any others that go up to that size Embarassed Sad
Are they all going to be different sizes? even if it says 4xl (Just like most clothing)

(Before you say it, I'm not huge....!)

Any suggestions/help greatly appreciated, I hate shopping Twisted Evil

Hi Icey,

That sounds a bit odd to me. My summer jacket is a ladies one and it is XL. In winter I used my husbands (mens!) buffalo jacket which is a medium. Both fit me a treat. In normal clothes I am a size 14. Dunno how that compares to you though.

Maybe you just need to get yourself along to one of the bigger bike shops and try loads of stuff on?

Thanks Gemma, I have tried loads on and still havent had luck, I guess I'm going to have to take another trip around and try on even more.

I really don't understand why other females like shopping, it's torture.

It seems it like highstreet stores, you buy clothing for your size, you get it home and it's either too big or too small Rolling Eyes

I've found a lot of the womens bike clothing a bit on the small side. I think it is a case of trying things on and finding out what feels good. Thing is, when you're riding the last thing you need is your concerntration broken because the clothing you're wearing is uncomfortable. Good luck.

Icey,

I see you are in Wiltshire too. Have you tried Fowlers in Bristol? It is a big store so you can try loads on in one go without the need for traipsing from one shop to another.

Must admit to being one of those females who love shopping though Wink

Ladies leathers in big sizes. I've got the Ladies Warrior jacket and it's excellent, survived a couple of crashes no problem - would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Gemma - Can you recommend anywhere else in deepest darkest Wilts that I could have a look at?

I've been to Fowlers & J&S.

Is there a Hein Gericke anywhere near you? They have loads of motorcycle clothing which is of good quality and not to hard on the wallet.

The sizes on bike clothing seem to be totally meaningless, you should always try it on anyway to make sure the armour sits in the right place and suchlike.

Yeah there's one in Bristol. From what I remember, parking is a pain though. And its in a pretty dodgy looking area.

I'll be honest here, I went to a big Gericke and not a single piece of the womens clothing fitted me. If you're over a size 16 I doubt you'll have much luck with their ladies leathers.

Mens leather jackets are a no-no, they're always too big in the shoulders and usually a bit too long (which is okay until you try and sit in a riding position).

I did end up with a pair of Gericke mens trousers though, which fit really well once I chopped a couple of inches off the legs (strangely the knees are still in the right place). The Bikers Paradise trousers I had before were fine for normal riding but didn't have any stretch panels so made hanging off the bike quite difficult, thus I sold them and bought some Gericke ones.

Have found this :

https://www.hein-gericke.com/uk/product_info.php/cPath/1_15_7/products_id/1107

Hopefully they'll have it in the shop so I can try it on!

No, as mentioned above Hein Gericke is the only other one I am aware of. You could always try George Whites in Swindon but I haven't bought anything from there myself and it isn't that big.

I got most of my kit from the bike show last year - which isn't a great help to you I know! Confused

Good luck in your quest! Thumbs Up

There is this place in Swindon https://www.stallionleathers.co.uk/ never been there but it is owned and run by a lady biker so might be worth a look as she is probably a little better at finding ladies clothing.

Let me know what it's like if you happen to go there as I haven't braved it yet (I hate shopping but love motorbike shops so it's best I stay away as I am broke). I have real trouble buying women's clothing as I find they are never big enough for my arse. I seem to have the arse of a 20 stone women which is lovely Wink

Ginguar - I highly recommend a visit to Stallion Leathers! Specially if you want to dispose of old jackets & alterations.

I have finally found a jacket, I'm totally smitten, and the alterations to it only cost me £80. Marian was really helpful, and gave me lots of advice what she could do with different jackets.

My jacket is a very retro Alpine Stars (in a orange!) and shes just putting two panels each side to accomdate my belly Razz

Really wish I had my camera!

Pictures to follow - will have it back before my CBT (woo yay!)

Icey

Glad to see you got a jacket in the end - shopping for women's bike clothes can be a nightmare (unless you're a standard size 12!).

For future reference, you might want to look at GirlsBike2:

https://www.girlsbike2.com/default.asp

At the moment there are stores in Hitchin (Herts) and Brackley (Northants), but in the next couple of months four more will be opening - Poole, Aberdeen, Dorking and North London, with more to follow over the next year. The North London store will be run by a very friendly girl known as shop_addict Very Happy

We do sizes 6-26, major brands, leather and textile, and all tailored to fit women. You even get a complimentary cuppa and biscuit while shopping.

HTH

It's a franchised business - so you can apply to buy one, and you'd be your own boss.

Shame you're not in the London area. I'm going to be needing bike-oriented shop staff asap when I open, or I'll be running around like a loony.

I've just spent the day at the Brackley store for the official opening - there were eight of us there and we were all busy!

Still, it's worth giving up the rat-race for a chance to spend all day talking to people about bikes and clothes! Wink
