Well as a few of you know (because I have been ranting on for the past few days about it) I went to go pickup the Rieju RS1 yesterday, the thing is when we got there, I found that both sides of the fairings had large cracks in them , the spare fairing that came with the bike also had cracks, the bike had been poorly resprayed metallic blue (by himself) and was uneven in certain areas, the frame had been poorly resprayed silver which again was uneven, the rev counter stopped working everytime I turned the light on, meaning you would have to change gear whilst guessing the RPM in the dark, the electric starter sounded very unhealthy (it was making noises that sure as hell didn't sound like they were helping the bike start), the mirrors were missing, the top end of the engine had been blown up and rebuilt and to attempt to cover this up the top-end of the engine was resprayed, (although from the looks of the paint-job, I'm not too sure how well this thing had been put together), the bikes front visor was off of and Aprilia RS50 so it did not fit and looked very strange as it was sticking out of the top and the front light on the bike was very misty. The only thing we could see going for it was the Metrakit Sports Pipe (which he clamied cost him almost £200). Anyway he was asking for £660 for the bike but before we got there we were told the bike was in immaculate condition and therefore were under the impression this was the bargain of the century, so we walked away and didn't buy the bike (which I so badly wanted!) so could you guys please tell me if I made the right choice walking away? thanks, P.S I am now looking for a sports 50cc manual bike for anything upto £800 (maximum) if any of you guys have one for sale, thanks a bunch...

Guessing by what you just said I'm saying (in my opinion) you made the right choice, £660 is alot for something that's been to hell and back.

Goodluck.

You definately made the right choice.
The rule of thumb with second hand bikes is simple - If in doubt, walk away.

No question, you made exactly the right choice. If you found all that wrong after a quick inspection, immagine the nasty problems you'd have discovered as a new owner?
There's always another one out there for you.

Your decision was spot-on Thumbs Up. Your description makes it sound far from "immaculate", even allowing for age related wear and tear. Just from the "standard" check list:

Arrow Fairings don't crack by themselves, so the bike's either been crashed, dropped or otherwise abused.

Arrow If someone wants to upgrade their bike through a re-spray, they'd have it done professionally. A dodgy spray job very often is a sign of trying to cover up crash damage.

Arrow If bits of the bike don't work (rev counter + lights) something is broken. Again, that's not immaculate.

Arrow A sports pipe is useless if the rest of the bike is buggered, so it makes no difference what he paid for it.

Well done on walking away. How did this clown have the nerve to describe that bike as immaculate?

I haven't got a clue as to why he thought it was immaculate, he might be in for a shocker when he does come accross an immaculate bike, I do feel sorry for the guy who doesn't see these problems and buys the bike. As to a previous question the bike was a 'Y-Reg'. Thanks for backing up my decision guys, although I was really down about not getting a bike yesterday, I'm happy I made the right decision ans I am going to look at an Aprilia RS50 tonight so fingers crossed... Sounds like you did the right thing, that bike sounds knackered. Just keep your eye on bike trader, the freeads and ebay and im sure you will find one soon.
"meaning you would have to change gear whilst guessing the RPM in the dark"
Although the tach should have been working, once you start riding you will find you dont really need it. You can tell when you need to change just by listening to the engine. I dont even have a tach on my bike and never have on any of my other geared bikes.

He probably said that so people come to view the bike, if someone is desperate for a bike and not prepared to wait they may just hand over the cash 'just so they have a bike', and not bother to think about the expensive consequences of repairing it later.

Its all about impulse.

Chewing gum, sweet racks and juice are at till points for a reason you know. Thumbs Up
