VTR1000cc Firestorm... as a first big bike

for a first big bike - will i wrap this? if i take it slow and ease myself into it is it forgiving?

seems to be what i'm looking for, a tourer that will keep up with a sports 600 and won't break the bank - not exactly a R1, I know - i'd prefer a BMW R1200** but too pricey.

I'm looking at a 6 year old model with modest genuine 6K miles, under £2.5K - full MOT etc...

I just think i'll be bored with the likes of the SV650S and I need a bike that can take me to the south of france in a months time, with ease.

I understand it eats fuel - no problem, and suspension upgrades can be had for it as can decent pads and tyres....

does anyone think i'm mental for considering it?

I don't think you're crazy, but then again I'm 16 years old and own 6 motorcycles (buying my seventh very soon!) so many would say I'm not quite right in the head... Razz

I think anything is possible but you will have to be careful, you say "first big bike" so I'll assume you've not had another bike bigger than 500cc. Compared to any bike 500cc or under the VTR will be crackers.

Take it easy and be gentle with the throttle.

Good bike. Used to have one.

Not a bike that makes you pin the throttle wide open everytime you hop on it. Good amount of torque and quite fun in the twisties - Handling isn't half bad but not anywhere enarly as flickable as the sv is (which I have now).

The chap I bought mine off had taken his round Europe and had no problems with it whatsoever. It has the tendency to chew through chain and sprockets and rear tyres I found.

And of course, normal riding will make the reerve light flash within 100 miles. The most I got from conservative riding was 120 miles. And you don't ride like that much, I tell you!! Laughing

I say go for it. Fun bikes but I prefer my sv for the time ebing (I'm learning a lot more from it than I did with the storm)
